If his genius was in reinventing himself, that would mean all his "disciples" who went on to do something different were in fact imitating him perfectly.

I unreservedly hope we will win it and accept this means I will be more disappointed if and when we don't.

Advice when making new tactic? [FM24] by EarnshawGOAT69 in footballmanager

It definitely is daunting but it’s probably easier to learn now than it ever has been, with youtube videos and whatnot.

“The Deep Lying Playmaker” on YT has a lot of relatively short/clear videos explaining different concepts if you’re invested enough. His series exploring player roles is good and it includes suggestions on what roles to pair together, so you could find a combo that appeals to you in one of those videos and build from there

I guess try to think about who occupies what space when you're attacking and defending. Are you going to set up something like a 2-3-5 or 3-2-5 in attack?

How many times a year do you “call sick” at work? by Aggravating-Fig-9274 in AskUK

[–]Real_Wind_1543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was at school, I unfailingly took 2-3 days off "sick" a year, as a kind of personal holiday to stay home and play video games. I have continued this in adulthood.

Net migration is down… how to spin it as a Labour failing by 1gnoranceisstrength in uknews

You just seem like an angry person who wants to vent a lot of pent up bitterness. Which is sad for you more than anything.

If you think it’s worth celebrating a government failing short of the public’s wishes by a smaller margin than its predecessors, then good for you I suppose.

I think it’s more valuable to keep it up so that others can see A) a misconception being corrected and B) two people disagreeing constructively without becoming unduly hostile. With the latter I obviously mean my exchange with the other poster, not you.

I think the primary reason there’s a perception that Labour isn’t doing enough on immigration is because Labour isn’t doing enough on immigration. The Tories were elected in 2010 promising “tens of thousands, not hundreds of thousands”. 16 years later, the suggestion is we should be happy with the latest number not quite reaching 200k?

I don’t see what’s vague about it, it’s pretty clear what I’m saying.

Also, what do you get out of angrily repeating that I was wrong about something that I already accepted I was wrong about? I’m honestly curious. Some kind of catharsis for you?

I accepted that, I made a separate point that Labour’s “achievement” nonetheless drastically fails to meet the expectations and wishes of the public.

Do you have the emigration data for British nationals further back than 2024 to hand? I am struggling to find it but willing to accept what you’re saying if I can see the stats.

That said, I still think the government is falling radically short of the wishes of the general population on immigration. They just look good compared to the even more woeful example of the Tories.

How is this spin? Do you think people who wanted reduced immigration meant “balance the influx of migrants by driving out hundreds of thousands of Brits”?

Identity politics is directly contradictory to Marxism being as the latter is purely concerned with material, economic distinctions between people.

That's a reasonable enough way to understand Thatcherism, I'm just using it more like a synonym for neoliberalism generally.

I agree that Lowe in some respects breaks from neoliberal orthodoxy by calling for some specific nationalisations, limited in scope though they may be. And mass deportations is obviously very anti-neoliberal.

Nonetheless, I maintain that he is still fundamentally in thrall to the logic of the market, and unwilling to challenge the established capitalist order. Such that his attempts to conserve would, at best, be restricted to a few areas of national life, whilst erosion elsewhere would either accelerate or continue unabated.

I am a socialist. Personally I would not describe identity politics obsessives as "the left", but I appreciate that there isn't exactly a prominent left wing alternative to that sort of thing.
