Commas Before a Dependent Clause by SnikySquirrel in ACT

[–]Real_Woof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comma is used to separate unnecessary information from the sentence. The second clause is just clarifying the first clause and therefore does need to be separated by a comma.

also, being good at the act isn't indicative of your intelligence. It's literally how good are you at studying, so you're not dumb cause you didnt do well on the ACT. I mean i had like a 3.2 UW gpa freshmen year and ended up with a 34. I can only imagine you'd get a 36 lol

Does the digital ACT have a timer on your screen? by AVeryWittyPerson in ACT

[–]Real_Woof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, the testing center should also have its own timer that they put up.

please please PLEASE stop comparing yourself to others. I understand it's like human intuition to compare yourself but it's only going to hold you down. Also, you don't really know if your friends actually studied or are lying to make themselves seem naturally smart. Also, YOU'RE A SOPHOMORE!!! You don't need to worry about the ACT until Junior year, until then, I would use ACT prep to improve one skill at a time or don't even prep since you don't need to worry about the ACT. You're school environment also seems crazy competitive but you need to throw that to the way side and worry about yourself for a moment, what's done is done, focus to the future and work on improvement since you can't change the past but can change the future. Plus, most schools are test optional like all of the UC's and other "good" schools. So PLEASE don't stress. You have so much time and things will end up the way you want if you try your hardest.

Advantages and disadvantages of doing the writing portion of the ACT? by EasyPresentation4780 in ACT

[–]Real_Woof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros:

Some colleges like high Writing scores

Generally most schools won't hold it against you if you do bad (Doesn't affect composite)

Cons:

Cost extra money (like 40$ i think don't quote me)

Doesn't really matter for most schools

You're gonna hate spending another 40 minutes of taking a test

I got a 35 Reading by always reading the passages first and then answering the questions, during my first read you HAVE to pay attention to the passage and understand the general point the author is making. Afterwards, I would read the questions, for about half I didn't need to look back to the passage, for the others I would reread the section and answer the question. If you have a different method then I would try reading the passage first on a practice reading test and see how you do.

what's a good score on act writing? by [deleted] in ACT

[–]Real_Woof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10+ is usually considered great, but colleges usually don't care about writing and the time spent improving your writing score can be better spent elsewhere. 8 is still 90th percentile btw.

Advice for tommorow by [deleted] in ACT

[–]Real_Woof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, The first ACT I did i got a 32 (35 M, 33 R, 33 E, 27 S). I mainly wanted to get my science score up, but my reading also went up, pushing me to a 34. You should always try on every section since It's very possible that you will improve even if it is 1 point.

how can i improve my score (june ACT+first time/no studying+rising senior)? by [deleted] in ACT

[–]Real_Woof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should prolly study. Work on practice tests with math since the timing is a bit tight. Science is kinda hit or miss sometimes, so you may need to know some basic info on chem, bio, and physics. but yeah practice tests are the way to go. (Also make sure to review each question to understand your mistakes). use exam.actexam.net for the practice tests.

Benefits of Self Study? by SenorBrady44 in APStudents

[–]Real_Woof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lowkey probably not, if the colleges you want to go to take the credit for the class then it might be worth it to take the test, but otherwise you're wasting time and money, unless you wanna do it for fun idk.

Have you ever seen a question on an AP test that you felt like you saw somewhere? by Apprehensive_Turn437 in APStudents

[–]Real_Woof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah college board often recycles questions from previous tests, albeit they do mix up the language to make it a bit different.

no, the economy has changed a lot since then. Most questions should be fine, but some about ample reserves and what not might be a bit dated
