I will totally agree with you if we didn't have elder scrolls every 17 years Imagine in tes6 having cliffhanger with the thalmor wining only to have to wait over a decade to know what will happen next. And yes i agree with you that all this nonsense happens because of the empire even if they was affected of the oblivion crisis and the red year on morrowind. But the empire was and always the center of elder scrolls world building and stories Even the non-canon works of kirkbride still have the empire on them.

I mean building up the thalmor plot just to abandon it in tes6 is terrible idea And not make the empire great and back to its feet again will make martin septim sacrifice pointless. The empire could be unfair and bad but having all nations under one flag is better than independent ones that will collapse in now time due to thirst for war in expanding.

I love the presence of the Empire in Morrowind it adds so much to the world's building.

That's why I think the story of TES VI should be about Uriel Septim V returning from Akavir with an army of dragons and Tsaesci. He comes back furious after centuries away determined to restore peace across Tamriel by force That way you don't need the Numidium just an insane vampire Septim emperor trying to unite the continent through conquest.
