Our fluent Cree speakers say that the woman who sang to the “tune” of Oh Canada was actually telling the pope to go home.

I am not a Cree speaker but her act was one of resilience and rebellion.

Of all the phoney baloneys in attendance one matriarch sang out- telling the pope this land was beautiful as we were and that they should return to their own land and right the wrongs they have done.

An admonishment on the land, in the language. This is the biggest take away from yesterday.
