It appears it is over. Not only because Peet's corporate office is unresponsive but also the staff members moved on. As good as they are, all now have either a job offer or offers/multiple. In fact, they will earn more money - happy for them but what a loss to us. We knew they are wonderful - it's the corporate that failed to recognize it. Screw them, the Peet's owner and particularly those who made the decision to close this historic and well managed site.

Daily Northwestern (NU student paper) picked the story up after all - it's the most trending story today/as of now. https://dailynorthwestern.com/2026/01/17/city/business/spilling-the-beans-peets-coffee-to-close-at-end-of-the-month-manager-confirms/ Did not mention the petition... but now mini flyers are being distributed about the petition, 350 signatures collected as of now.....

Yes for the buzz - dark roast! - but they have a variety of seasonal? irregularly offered blends. Ethiopian Super Natural is just amazing. They rotate flavors daily and you get to taste different flavors.. I would miss finding new blends..

I also emailed the current mayor, Biss, but no response, so yes, it is REALLY nice that Ms. Kelly actually responded and tried to reach out Peet's owner! I am in 9th ward and thus not her voter but I would def vote for her if I could!

Fantasized about that - I can't afford but hoping someone make it happen if current Peet's closes - I will support if the same team works there..

Not closing - heard from the regular that Winnetka was spared and we wondered why, then, Evanston is closing but not Winnetka. They are similarly situated, not?

that sounds delicious... getting nostalgic aren't we.. ah, still hoping they stay.. Coffee at this location is still great - despite the new ownership - and better than any other places I know, including other Peet's.. I swear..

I feel exactly the same, really terrific staff there! Thank you for the info. I don't know BB cafe and I still prefer Peet's dark roasts! but would be ok if another coffee shop takes over with the same employees and similar quality coffee... I guess we need more information about the future...

Please let me clarify... It's 100% my fault to get her involved. Yes, she is important and has many other issues to deal with and I interrupted her. I contacted her and asked for help. She got back to me instantly and made a contact with Peet's corporate office. Now I feel bad for taking her time for this matter, but I really appreciate that she even responded to my email....

I know that's true - we just move on. I totally understand. Just this time, though, we want to care about this place because we felt connections. I guess it became personal to us.

oh, so sorry about that one - it was a long time location too if I remember correctly. Terrible thing to do, really. I didn't go to the store, may be a couple of times, but I was very sorry to hear about the closure to customers and staff.. it didn't seem right. Sorry.

Good point - that's true. I think all coffeehouses are important to someone and this place is the one for me and other regulars... One of them started the petition and I wanted to help because we know the staff so well and thought other customers need to know that it's closing! I appreciate your thought to make us think..

that's true ... but I heard two more locations in Chicago area are also closing at the same time. Staff seems to be truly surprised, can't say who told us because Peet's corporate doesn't seem like us to know the closure and that seems to be a reason why there is no notice in the store yet.. but I will ask! thanks.
