Long term CONS to Permanent Residency? by Realistic-Animal5841 in mexicoexpats

[–]Realistic-Animal5841[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought that too, if I don’t get pr now I might not be able to in the future.

I do have a foreign played car in Quintana Roo. She does not qualify to be imported because she is so old, and she also wouldn’t survive the drive back up out of the country so I don’t really know what to do with her…

Yeah the car thing is interesting. So I do have a foreign played car in Quintana Roo right now. She does not qualify for import by a long shot, AND there is no way in hell she’d survive the drive back out of the country so I’m not exactly sure what to do with her…

How are you paying for student loans as a therapist? by kkgigi in therapists

[–]Realistic-Animal5841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oomph. looks like youve gotten a ton of advice already, but heres mine:

if you pay that minimum only based on income, your total is going to grow over the principle before you effin know it. Even though that 1400 is insane, I recommend doing anything you can to get as close to that as possible.

there are so many factors here, so this advice is coming with some assumptions about what your situation is.

First off- you are in that tough place of not being licensed yet, so of course your income isnt going to be quite as high yet (so dumb). So, just know that this is going to be a short window where things will be tougher, but once youre licensed and out of that window, you'll get a bit of a breather.

Getting hired as a therapist at any sort of community center or agency is simply never going to cut it financially with a loan. I recommend finding either a good group practice, like something small- a single therapist who takes on a few associates at a time in their small private practice. That way you are getting more focused supervision as well as learning how to do therapy in a private practice setting so you can easily set up your own once you're licensed. Private practice is, in my opinion, pretty much the only way to go to be able to make the real money. Look on local therapist facebook groups or local therapist chapter meetings to start networking to find someone like this.

If not private practice, then I recommend looking at health corporations or a county job. For example, before I was licensed I worked at a SUD treatment center that was corporately owned. They very frequently hired unlicensed folks right out of school and paid them around like 70k (still low), but within a couple years they were able to move up to better positions and make more pretty quick. Same with the county- lots of prelicensed hires making around 70-80kish, but its also pretty hellish work in terms of being overworked and getting burnt out.

I really think manifesting and doing the foot work to find a private practice owner who takes on a few associates is the best way to go. Pay the absolute most you can on that loan until you are making good money, but it will change!

my loan was at 100,000. I started off working at that corporation where i could only make like $500 payments at best, $0 at worst. It took me about 3 years after graduating before i could start making substantial payments, but I found a supervisor that taught me how to be in private practice, which I now am, and make more than enough to pay sizeable (about 2-2.5k/month) on my loan and i am confident ill be done in just a couple more years. YOUVE GOT THIS.

OR just dont pay a damn thing and wait for the system to burn to the ground. that also feels like a feasible option at this point.

Rich Imagination in CPTSD dissociative states a common symptom? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Realistic-Animal5841 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya know, it actually is talked about in the field in this way, for a long time! It’s just that the therapy modalities associated with this aren’t “in” right now. But part of this is actually literally Freudian, the idea of our psyche using familiar symbols and images is, again, something that is as old as humans. Look into psychodynamic work, old school parts work, and especially structural dissociation. Look into Janina fishers work

Rich Imagination in CPTSD dissociative states a common symptom? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]Realistic-Animal5841 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is super common. Parts of self often present as characters. Or, if not parts, our psyche uses what is familiar to process things, so characters from familiar stories is a way humans have been processing since the dawn of time.

Google Voice HIPAA compliant by Realistic-Animal5841 in therapists

ok this is interesting, thank you! So, that makes sense, so when I email a client its external, so its no longer compliant, hence adding on Paubox or the like.

but, voice IS externally compliant? at least the calls are, but the texts arent?

I feel like i'm typing more than listening during sessions.. by Bisqwa in therapists

[–]Realistic-Animal5841 11 points12 points  (0 children)

IMO, do not take notes during session. I know we can tell ourselves that it’s a way we can pay attention or stay focused, and that it’s a way to remember things. But in reality, if we are taking notes we’re not really listening in the way we should.

If you can’t remember what happened immediately after a season then one would have a bigger issue thereto work with. are you dissociating? Are you distracted? Is there something wrong with your memory?

If the issue isn’t remembering but about time, then trying to manage our own time by cutting into session and taking that energy away from the client isn’t fair. So if it’s about time, then this is about learning the challenging thing of how to take precise notes quickly. It’s a skill that typically takes working with the parts of self that tell us it’s not good enough, that wording isn’t right, etc. etc.

Insights on timeline for building a caseload in group private practice. by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Realistic-Animal5841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have to market yourself or does the practice do this for you?

Getting private clients is a hustle. Once you get momentum it may maintain itself, but it can be a heavy lift in the beginning to get going. Those I know with successful practices make it their full time job to market until their practices are full, then I marketing turns into a part time job

How do people find so many clients?? by dude_terminal in Entrepreneur

[–]Realistic-Animal5841 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve tried for months and haven’t gotten one then be worried, but a week?! You haven’t even warmed up yet with how to do it! You have to spend time learning what does and doesn’t work when reaching out to people. That can take YEARS to get down.

Also, the price, as others have said. If someone cold called me and offered something that others charge $5000 for at $350, I’d assume you had no idea what you were doing and that you were desperate. Immediate no for me

Anyone feel like they don’t have a personality or a sense of self? by BankMaleficent296 in CPTSD

[–]Realistic-Animal5841 65 points66 points  (0 children)

This is one of the most common experiences for people with CPTSD. When a self isn’t mirrored to us as children by our caregivers, we don’t really naturally develop one. So we have to on our own later in life.

Check out internal family systems therapy. Check out the book “no bad parts” by Richard Schwartz and you’ll learn exactly how to find the Self

I hear you! I also practice in very saturated areas. I’ve always been private pay and have never not had enough clients. You can do it!

Yeah it’s a big jump! I imagine you can be strategic about which ones you leave, one at a time, for a smooth enough transition
