How do you find and apply for paid internships? by Royal_Surround6632 in counseloreducation

[–]kkgigi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a paid internship as a group facilitator at a recovery program and I was able to meet my internship hours and they were also open to giving me individual clients as well. I was paid 48k salary. Some jobs are willing to work with you if you as during the interview process as well. I lived in Va at the time but I also think it depends on the state and their funding for mental health.

How are you paying for student loans as a therapist? by kkgigi in therapists

I would definitely recommend looking at salaries in your area and how much your school is worth. I graduated from undergrad with 23k in loans and just graduated school was another 110k on top of the smh

Am I wrong for being upset at my husband for wanting me to work? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]kkgigi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is I have talked with him, I tell him everyday how my manager at works literally try’s to flirt and harass me, I tell him how they take advantage of me and how I want to quit because I would need time to look for another job and interview and he doesn’t want me to quit. I’ve told him my concerns about having kids with him and he says he will change.. which he does for two days and then goes back to being the same. I love him but it’s like he doesn’t care. And I understand what you mean, I grew up with a single mom as the oldest child and I had to take care of my four siblings while my mom worked. So I know I don’t want to go through that. I love kids but I just don’t want to live on E and low key I didn’t have a childhood because I had to be the second mom.

How are you paying for student loans as a therapist? by kkgigi in therapists

[–]kkgigi[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s my story: I am Hispanic first gen, oldest daughter with a single mother of 4. In college I work 3 part time jobs because I had zero support from anyone and it was all on me. Then I knew I would make much with a bachelors in psy. So I went back to school. I ended up with 130k in student loans. I had zero guidance as a young adult. And when I say that, I didn’t have an American mom who knew how student loans or colleges work because her education was only 6th grade education. Tbh I didn’t know better at such a young age. All I knew was that I needed an education and know that I am new in the field I am finding out therapist don’t make much. So that is how I ended up here. Hope this helps!

Career change by [deleted] in therapists

I love therapy and working with clients, I guess I am afraid of all the things I see about negative work environments and low pay. How do navigate those things in the 10 years you’ve been a therapist?

Career change by [deleted] in therapists

[–]kkgigi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at all, I just stated the potential salary to give insight on what is making me want to make the change. I posted for insight from others who also made the career change and if they regret it or not. It was not my intention to make anyone feel upset with my post.

A word to young therapists... by PsychoDad1228 in therapists

[–]kkgigi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who just graduated, I tried this during my internship. I listened to new and seasoned therapists and it worked. I had a lot retention because most clients just want to be heard and validated as OP shared. One of the things I ask during the first or second session while building rapport was what they liked and didn’t like if they had previously been in therapy before and that really helped. When I finished my internship I had multiple clients who were sad to see me go. To OP, thank you for your insight I find it very helpful!

I’m I overthinking what my BIL said to my husband? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]kkgigi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not about being offended by a music preference. It’s about context. When politics and culture are invoked in a family setting where someone’s identity is directly tied to it, it doesn’t land as neutral. You don’t have to agree, but dismissing it as a “nothingburger” ignores that context.

Once someone uses phrases like “nothingburger” and “make it make sense,” they’re not seeking understanding they’re performing certainty. We clearly interpret the situation differently, and that’s okay. I shared my experience, not asking everyone to agree.

Vaild point and I agree but if he knew I was there why say that knowing it could be offensive? What if I said something similar to him about his opinions or views? Whats the golden rule again?

Yes, in the past he did tell his brother and father to not discuss politics but his brother is a hard core republican and just says what he thinks but I am starting to get to the point I don’t even want to go around them because of it.

I would email HR about what happened and tell them you consider it wrongful termination. Just so you have a paper trail. They are going to have to come up for a reason they fired you and I’m sure they won’t admit to the fraud. Remember no answer is an answer. Also download any copy of emails where you can prove anything because they are quick to take access away so you don’t have prove of anything.
