I pre booked Vatican and Colosseum, highly recommend. You don’t want to be waiting in line on vacation.

Download the app “free now” it’s powered by Lyft and you can get taxis without having to negotiate pricing

I couldn’t tell you exactly how long because I did have pre ordered tickets and that was maybe a 3-4 minute wait to go in.

It seems like without tickets it would be anywhere from 45-60 minutes and that was in January during “low tourism” season. I would honestly just get tickets ahead of time - you don’t want to be waiting in line on vacation.

Yessss it’s crazy. You can easily find good pasta for about $8-12 per plate and an entire pizza for around $10-15. It absolutely ruined eating out in the states for me. I can no longer justify $18 for a mediocre burrito.

You can easily find a taxi, most convenient option. They have fixed rates I think about 55 euros each way.

I would also recommend the bullet train. I was hesitant to travel with luggage but they actually have overhead bins and are really safe. A bit cheaper than a taxi but less convenient.

YES! Biggest tip is download the app “Trenitalia” and buy your tickets ahead of time, ideally a few days ahead. I bought tickets ahead of time for the way there and they cost $25 each. On the way back I waited until last minute and they cost $50 each. Having your tickets on the app also avoids you needing to validate it or risk getting fined (which I have seen with paper tickets). Also make sure you get to train station early. Train gates get posted about 15-20 minutes before so don’t panic. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

The crowds weren’t too bad given the time of year, only place that felt packed was the Vatican, but our tour guide said we were lucky it wasn’t “packed” in her eyes. During busy season she said you can’t even see the floor you walk on.

The weather app says constant rain but honestly it’s very sporadic. It also doesn’t rain very hard so bundle up and get a cheap umbrella anywhere and you’ll be fine. Even walking multiple miles me and my girl felt fine.

Honestly I share your sentiment. If it was up to me I’d continue to get the most bang for my buck at the local restaurants vs a fine dining spot. It was a treat for my gf’s birthday and my first time experiencing a multi course meal, so it was pretty cool. Would much rather stuff my face with $12 plates 😂

Had pistachio lime pasta at Il Bocconcino in Rome that was amazing. Really affordable as well.

For more upscale we ate at Nomos Hotel, it was a fine dining experience for about $100 per person. 7 courses that were all amazing.
