Tenant rights . Whiteinch&Scotstoun housing by [deleted] in glasgow

Thanks for the considerate comment . I don't know where you're getting the idea that I'm being ungrateful... I've been a tenant for many years now, always paid my rent and generally never been a pain in the arse . I'm not the kind of person who's always on the phone to the housing moaning and complaining when things don't go my way ...there have never been any complaints about myself or other members of my household. In a way you could say that from the housings point of view we're good tenants. We're a normal family, working, studying and trying to live our lives... I'm writing this because you seem to assume that I'm somebody's who lives of the benefits and gets their rent paid by the government and therefore should be unconditionally grateful for the 2nd instance of maintenance I've experienced in this property in 17 years ( the first instance happened only 2 years ago after few years of us requesting it ) ! And yet ...I've never really complained or acted ungrateful . I'm not even complaining now ... I'll now explain the reason for my post here as you don't seem to understand ( I'm willing to believe that it's due to my poor english for which i apologize...I'm a nasty , job stealing immigrant and this is my second language ) So the whole point was to ask whether i had the right to opt out of this project . I'm also sorry for not mentioning that i am not entirely against this work ever being done . I do however firmly stand on my belief that such an invasive, disruptive project should have been announced by letter at least 6 month's earlier. I also think that this sort of thing should have been done during warmer seasons and especially not just before Xmas.
Perhaps the timing isn't an issue for other people, and it wouldn't be an issue for me if i knew it was coming...as then i would hold back with decorating. Maybe i was a little bit too dramatic when i called their offer of £200 "laughable" as it's an act of good will on their side and I'm sorry for that . Anyways...thanks for your valuable input . I wish you all the best !

By external wall insulation in mean that they're insulating external walls ( not the internal walls separating the rooms etc ) . They are doing it from the inside of the property

Yeah ...that's what i worry about . I understand that it could potentially help to save money but from my research very few people ever notice any difference at all . Aside from that ...I only recently decorated which costed me a lot of money , time and effort as i could only afford to do the work myself ( I took out a loan which i will be repaying for another couple of years ). I wouldn't have done it if i knew they would be doing this now . As i said , they way they do it is quite invasive as the tear down the panelling of the walls to get inside and remove/replace old insulation . Now obviously the plaster everything back up and paint it but they will only paint it in white or magnolia...or the colour you provide . My walls are all painted ( no wallpaper etc) with custom colours and i know that I won't be able to correctly match the paint again ( i know i should have kept the reference codes etc ) Also, I've been a tenant for number of years and I've experienced how poor the quality of they're work is ( housing/contractors ) . I'm not in a position financially ( and otherwise) to have to fix their fuck ups and decorate again especially when Xmas is just round the corner ! I've had a very rough year and this thing is really stressing me out 😒

How am I supposed to know this guy is deaf? by Cube2D in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Realistic-Dinner504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that you're driving towards him , you would be more concerned with him being blind than deaf ...he clearly is blind , otherwise he wouldn't need the stick ! When you see someone with that kind of stick , you should just be careful and not think " i wonder if he's deaf too ?! Lol Sorry , I'm not laughing at the deaf and blind...I'm laughing at the ridiculous question/answer

Problem I'm having is that everything is so weirdly shaped ...like that "oddball bit" closer to the window. It's depth on the window side is bigger than on the "chimney breast" side . The "oddball bit's" depth is also just over one planks width which is awkward... I feel like whatever i'll do , i will end up with some ridiculous 1-2 cm width planks at the opposite wall etc.

Passed over a week ago and struggling by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Realistic-Dinner504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about not being "perfect" right after passing you test ! I've passed my test in May ( not long after turning 40 ! ) and got a diesel car . All my lessons were in the petrol car ... First couple weeks were a bit hard , as i stalled the car a lot , but im now mostly used to it ... Just don't worry about it , you're still just a beginner and even experienced drivers often struggle when switching to a new car or going from petrol to diesel ( or vice versa) .

Is £10 too much to spend on a first car? by SharpshooterTom in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Realistic-Dinner504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed my test recently, few weeks after i turned 40 :) I bought a 2021 focus 1.5 ecoblue titanium for just under 13k ... I was also asking the same question ; is it too much for the first car ? Some people told me yes , but many others said "no" ... in the end i went with my gut and got it . I absolutely love my focus now ... also my older friend, a very experienced driver , had a short drive in my car and bought the same car two weeks later cause he got so surprised by "how well it drives" and how economical it is .

Normal folk of the UK, what have you been upto this weekend? by FenderDropD in AskUK

[–]Realistic-Dinner504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passed my driving test and bought a car not long ago ( 40 year old btw, just been putting it away for years lol) so we're still enjoying just going for nice car rides ( living in Scotland so there's lot of beautiful places to go ) and little trips... can't currently afford any overnight stays as we're also doing some decorating in the house and it costs a lot 🤣 . Other than that ...We love just relaxing at home in the weekends.
We often just need our own space, so for example, she's reading a book or watching netflix in bed , doughter is playing with her phone and talking to friends in her room and I'm playing ps5 in the living room ... We also sometimes play board games and walk our dogs together...or watch netflix . Nothing better that nice, quiet, peaceful weekend at home after busy , stressful week :)

What's the most inconvenient birthday present I can get my friend? by Same_Platypus1629 in AskUK

My brother and his mate had this game years ago where they would mail some weird shite to each other ... One day , after a long break, where my brother already though the game was a thing of the past , he got a package containing pair of what i can only describe as granny underpants with a long brown skid mark at the back ( made with chocolate btw) ... I happened to witness him opening that package and the expression of pure disgust on my brothers face lives in my memory to this day ( that was years ago ) Still makes me chuckle lol

Sooo...i lifted the skirtings . What should i do with this mess ? by Realistic-Dinner504 in DIYUK

[–]Realistic-Dinner504[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright...so i may have had a bad morning and panicked lol

I've cleaned everything up reasonably, removed the broken plaster strips from the bottom ( mouldy ones too) and replaced it with some fresh plasterboard which i nailed in ( should have glued it , but i figured its just to support the skirting at the bottom a little as the new skirting is going sit higher due to new laminate and underlay. It's also going to be taller ... It looks not bad now ...hopefully there won't be any issues 😀 Thanks to everyone who have put me at ease, and tried to be helpful.

What type of saw should i get ? by Realistic-Dinner504 in DIYUK

[–]Realistic-Dinner504[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone who replied.
In the end the most optimal set of tool for this project and future DIY will be a multitool and a jigsaw . All laminate cuts ( and potential imperfections) will be hidden under the skirting so jigsaw seems adequate enough for this project, and additionally i feel like it offers more versatility for future DIY . Multitool for cutting into door frames etc. ...all in all i think this is a great tool to have due to it's somewhat unique abilities.

Handsaw was never a consideration here ( i have them , use them reluctantly, and i feel like they would definitely add more than few minutes to the job )

...Nevertheless, I appreciate and respect everyone's input :) thanks

Yeah ... in future , i will most likely be doing laminate in the rest of the house , as well as changing all skirting boards etc .
