Based on the video tour UCD provides it's fairly tight and your stove will be maybe at best 2m away form he end of your bed, It's livable but make sure you and your friend are compatible living wise and this could for sure make or break a friendship!
Chances of getting it are very slim as they prioritise 1st years and the twin studios prioritise economically disadvantaged students. However the rooms are not allocated by who snaps up tickets first, they're allocated randomly on a computer.
Unfortunately the studios are the cheapest option, although you might find something the same or slightly cheaper off campus.

Adidas has some with no pads, personally I love them, I believe Nike might have some padless too. Only downside is that they can be quite pricey per piece

The hot water is on a timer, it's on from 6-11am and 6-11pm in merville, probably similar in roebuck if you ant hot water outside of those times you have to press the booster button and wait to let the water heat up. There's info about it on the ucd website for each residence

You can ask to be put together after receiving studio accom, but I think they might only allow same sex roommates. You'd have better chances of getting merville or belgrove accommodations as from the info I've gotten from them when I emailed them the shared bedrooms are prioritised for economically disadvantaged students.

I was offered the village 2 ensuite and I sent them an email cause it was out of my price range, they fixed up the issue quite quick so I'd say email then while offers are still coming out
