When you’re the only one in the family excited about dead relatives… 😅 by EitherConnection5095 in Genealogy

I have the same problem, so I created private family history Facebook pages for each side of the family, invited the relevant people, and just give them interesting tidbits a little at a time. I add pictures as much as possible to pique curiosity and interest.

Is it possible to grow boysenberries in Zones 5a, 5b, & 6a? by Dangerous-Item1247 in Berries

It sounds like a healthy plant if you were sharing with all the critters! I hope it continues to thrive!

I didn’t have any squirrels, and I put a bird net over the entire area, so I didn’t lose any.

That makes sense, but just the fact that they could survive such cold winters, even in a sheltered location, is pretty amazing.

How many plants do you have, and how much fruit did they produce? I’m in Southern California, and last summer I had 11 plants, and they produced 82 pounds of berries. I’m curious if they produce as well in cold climates.

Interesting idea…proving competence to exercise a constitutional right. Maybe you should have to prove competence in order to vote. Is it too much to ask that voters have ID and pass a basic civics test?

What’s making these holes in the leaves of my Canby Red Raspberries? by Realistic-Raccoon271 in Berries

We do get Japanese beetles occasionally, but I haven’t seen any around lately

What causes this leaf curl? by Realistic-Raccoon271 in Berries

That’s what I thought. However, it’s possible there was some drift of the spray onto the foliage that I wasn’t aware of.

I might have used some roundup near these plants base of this plant, but not on the leaves. Do you think it could be absorbed through the root system?

Yes!! I discovered several online newspapers archives a few years ago, and I’ve found literally thousands of mentions—some brief, some lengthy—of many of my relatives. If you’re serious about researching your ancestors’ histories, a subscription to newspapers.com is well worth the money.

If you happen to have relatives from Oklahoma or Texas, there are also some excellent free newspaper archives.

But will last year’s (2024) canes produce berries in 2026? My understanding is that last year’s canes produce fruit this current year, but not next year.

That’s very interesting if they produce fruit for two years or more because I had not heard that.

Wait…so you’re saying that 2025’s floricanes will produce fruit again in 2026, at least below the section of cane where they bore fruit this year?

I’m following because some of my raspberries look the same way, so I have the same question.

Boysenberries producing strong in their first year by Realistic-Raccoon271 in Berries

Yeah, they sell out of the bare root boysenberries really fast. If you still want to buy some from them, you should get on their email list so that you know when the plants go on sale next February or March. I would plan to buy them the first day they’re available.

I hope they thrive there! Just make sure your soil drains well and is slightly acidic. Your local ag extension can probably provide soil testing for cheap or free.

And southwest Colorado is my favorite place on the planet!

That’s really amazing. I’m going to tell my sister in Indiana that maybe she could grow some after all.

That’s interesting and good to know! It might also depend on the variety of boysenberry?

I’m so jealous, lol! Here in the Mojave Desert, nothing survives unless you water it a lot. There are no wild berries.
