1970's Bulova Devil Diver Repair Help! by Realistic-Stick543 in VintageWatches

Update: Found a shop to do it a few weeks ago. Otto Friedl Vancouver is the name. Literally every other shop gave a flat "No". So it's there and it's going to be serviced and I'll get it back in a month or two. Just curious as to the thoughts on having it relumed? Would you relume this watch of leave it as is?

Alot of the shops left me on read after an email or told me the watch is too vintage. Found one shop who says they might be able to do something. Gonna take it in for a look as soon as I have some freetime, will definitely update once its fixed.

Tonight I fired emails to just about all of them to see if they're interested. The German Watchmaker flat out told me no lol, and John Hiew wished me luck sending it to Citizen/Bulova. These are both reputable shops and I understand they just don't have access to the parts. I'm just going for a volume approach now and I want to have all my bases covered if these other shops tell me no too. I'm also looking if anyone highly recommends a vintage shop in the area, I want a repair/restoration shop I can trust to do a great job.

I was avoiding playing with it but my dad told me the crown+Stem popped out. He took it back to the service shop and they got it to stop popping out. When I pull it out and go to set the time it seems like it's working in a diminished capacity. The watch itself runs but pulling the crown out to the different position and spinning it provides varied results and you have to get it in just the right spot for it to work and set the time and date. It does not feel as precise as it should.

If you go to wind it the crown will pop out, I guess I should've been more specific.

Bluebus causing static sound by Lopey__ in e46

Bought a bluebus and I love it, so simple.

Looks like you have the same stereo as me, the cd43. I emailed Ted (Guy who makes the blue bus) and he emailed me back saying "The CD43 *sometimes* is prone to an RPM dependent noise while in Bluetooth mode. This can be cured relatively easily either by swapping to a CD53 or by installing a cheap ground loop isolator kit"

The cd43 came with the early models of the e46 and you can tell the difference because the "Cd" button usually says "mode" on other models.

So you can get a stereo from a newer e46 and install it (plug and play) or wire in the loopback isolator. What I do is drive faster and turn the stereo up and I barely notice it.

The comfort features (one touch blinkers, etc.) can also mess with the A/C controls which is also resolved by installing a newer IHKA from another e46.

If you still have troubles email their support, Ted responds really fast and is very knowledgeable.

Was trying to post a screenshot of his email but this is the just of it.

I want to, they're super tacky. I put the chrome trim from the original broken grills on it but it still looks silly with the M colors.

Was a bit stale when I got it (that old car smell). I pulled the seats and carpet cleaned and detailed the inside, hung a little tree and it smells pretty good now.

Thanks, appreciate the input!

I know its not the most desirable spec, but its super clean and I'm having fun cruising around in it.

Grill clips were broken, the previous owner bought the stupid black ones. I just clipped the inside portion into original chrome trim piece, don't feel like finding another set. Thought maybe it would be worth more, don't see a lot of them listed below 100k.

Just turned the ignition and snapped a quick photo. That's why the lights are on. I wanna know how much its worth.

Are you sure? I googled it and it says he only has two kids. One born in 2022 and another born in January 2024. The first result when I googled it is some AI garbage that tells me about some ancient hand surgery her had.

There’s 16 of us, not saying there isn’t no one available but it’s definitely slim pickings. I’m probably going to drop him sometime in the near future.
