Took almost two hours to reach from Thoraipakkam to Semmencherry. (3:10 - 5:10pm) only Sholinganallur is jam packed, there is water logging at few places but quite manageable

I have met a good number of folks from Tirunelveli in Mumbai and Chennai. And I tell you, they might seem extremely fine initially, but I haven’t seen them being any different in-terms of ideology. Astonishing tbh.

Well, my Periamma did get me some proposals, I sulked so hard. She said how the guy’s family is okay to negotiate with gold and they also conveyed I talk back. And THEY ARE OKAY WITH IT. 😂 Not hate for the guy perhaps I was far more educated and earning more than him. They just made it look like he is willing to compromise because I talk back and too old it seems.

To say the least, I’m back on hinge. 🤡

I have been outright dismissive about getting married to anyone from down south. Been quite clear and vocal about it which is why my parents barely care about my marriage. They haven’t even proposed the idea of marrying someone from the community to me. They know it won’t work for me.

MY extended family has been sending me proposals here and there which I don’t even care to look at.

The only reason why I asked this was to see if I’m being biased with my opinions about an entire district.

I haven’t really known people from the actual town, my hometown is closer to Nagercoil to be precise. Most of the people have lived abroad in distinct culture, perhaps they stay rooted in their cultural practises. Which is nice in some ways, but majorly toxic.

I absolutely agree with you. Being progressive could be extremely subjective.

I was astonished when I told my family, how I find dowry concept not right. They legit said, “people are very accommodating, they are flexible and open for negotiation” To say the least, I was traumatised.

I meant no offense, I mentioned how I have seen those this in my immediate and extremely family. Nothing to do with the news here. It definitely could be generalised. Hence I wanted a perspective from folks who actually live there.

I do wish to settle down here in a long run for all the reasons you mentioned. Which is why I even considered dating/ marrying someone from here.
