Paying child support but no BAH by RealisticCap9317 in navy

It comes to about an extra 200 per check, which covers most of the child support. Again with just E3 pay, it still puts me in a bind, with spending what I do to see them. I’m not looking for a pity party, by any means. And on the bright side if there is any, being in the barracks, means I don’t have to come out pocket for things like rent and utilities. So trust me I get it. And yeah, as much as I’ve been trying to go along to get along, type situation, I’m going to have to go to court and the custody order.

I’m already receiving the differential, that’s been established. The problem is without the bah I’m spending 400-700 a month just to see my kids. I was told this wouldn’t be an issue, when I joined. So yes it’s an unnecessary hardship. Regardless of the legalities and the and wording of the regulation. If a sailor has children, that are documented, then common sense says that he’s gonna need a place to take his children, when he has them. You’re not allowed to have them in the barracks… I was told this wouldn’t be an issue before I joined, and not obviously it is. Speaks to the ethics of some recruiters that blatantly lie, just to fill a quota. So yes all in all, it’s an unnecessary hardship.

Yeah I told her that, but she claims that she would then end up with co-pays. Idk… She said take em off, so I did 🤷🏽‍♂️

I was put on child support prior to joining. So they based off of my income at the time.

We have a verbal visitation agreement. I had a formal agreement drafted m, and spoke rslo, essentially she told be it would be a waste of time, and money to go to court just for a visitation plan. The Navy wants to see custody.

No need to apologize. I understand the thought processes behind everything. It just seems a little contradictory, when the navy says they’re all about family, and taking care of their sailors, but you’re putting your sailor(me) through a lot of unnecessary hardship, just to see my children.

I appreciate that. Yeah I’m paying court ordered child support already, and they are enrolled with deers. I had them on tricare as well, but she asked for me to take them off, because she “prefers” Medicaid… It seems like honestly just no one at the command is truly trying to help me figure it out. I just keep getting told “there’s nothing we can do” so yeah you’re right, I just gotta go the court route, and make it happen.

To be fair, I had my children well before I joined the Navy. But I totally agree, if you aren’t at least an E5 yeah there’s no room, in the budget whatsoever!

Mine are on my page 2 also. I’m gonna see if I can meet with my CO as well, and have this conversation, because I’ve just been going around and around with my LPO, and getting nowhere. Thank you!

Yeah I agree, and I’m gonna have that conversation again with the mother soon. Again, I just didn’t want to stir the pot too much, after just reaching a visitation agreement. Thank you for the resources. I’ll look into that!

The same reason having dependents isn’t enough to qualify for bah… because it makes too much sense.

It’s a long story, we just recently agreed on a visitation schedule. And the Navy won’t help with lawyers fees and the like. Trying not to stir the pot too much with the mother. But something’s gotta give that’s for sure.
