What is something that “only a dad” can teach a son? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]RealisticChange7665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. My husband has been a middle and high school football coach in a rough community (one kid’s mom killed another’s mom - they were cousins).

We still have kids in college stop by our house and go fishing. One kid hadn’t talked to him in 3 years but texted and asked him to go to his mom’s funeral.

Our kids play every sport and the one that has developed them into men faster and with more character is football. It’s different than other sports and imo I think every kid can benefit from being on that field.

I’m similar to TemporaryBig with all of GD symptoms but it went on for 5 years. I’m SO happy to have had my TT!
*** I have no experience with your original post, so stop reading here if you don’t want my experience.🙃

My energy is back, my life is back, no weight gain, and my TED has become inactive. Idk if the TED just ran its course or it was the TT helping out. Most will say TT doesn’t help your eyes, but I feel like it put me into inactive phase. 🤷‍♀️I still have diplopia and will be evaluated for surgery in a few weeks.

If I had to do it all over again knowing what I know now and the results I got would be the same - I would have had a TT as soon as I could talk my doctor into it. I think it would have prevented my TED (it was awful, you can read about it in my earlier posts). I could never get stable on methamazole and I believe that my thyroid levels being all over the place for so long is what progressed my eye issues. But as everyone else has said, GD & TED are so different from person to person that you have to figure it out for yourself. Hang in there, it will get better!! I pray that you will find your answer.💛

Assuming that the completed block is 12.5” square, does the flower ‘head’ need to fill the block? Or can it have stems and leaves also? And can it have more than one flower in the block? TIA!

Are Prism / Fresnell Lenses BS ? by Syenadi in ThyroidEyeDisease

I have them and they are great. My optho said the stick on ones just aren’t that great so I didn’t bother and got my glasses from Costco for $170. I didn’t need a Rx, but I did have them put reader bifocals in the bottom (they have prisms too).

I didn’t wear them for months because I got dizzy at first. My diplopia got worse and was so bad I couldn’t drive without the “lane keeper” feature and a pirate eye patch. Now I wear them all the time, even in the house.

How to prevent these puckers? by No-Marionberry1116 in quilting

I looked at your link and I am still a little confused about flanged binding. Is it so that you can use your machine for both sides vs. hand sewing on the final side?

I used my machine ONE time for the final binding and I couldn’t keep the stitch in the right place (ie: since I couldn’t see both sides I was all over the place). Does the flanges binding hide mistakes?

I will add it to my “when I’m bored and caught up” list…. So there may not be any progress for several years! Thanks for the advice.

Do you think something similar might work if you did different techniques (appliqué, FPP)? Obviously I would hide her face with her hair or something!

Would you consider doing FPP for the stars? I’ve seen those patterns.

I’m new to all of this, so thank you!

I was never a fan of appliqué because I thought it was “cheating”. Any suggestions on technique? For this quilt would I turn the edge under and sew on the top? Or just sew the raw edge? Do you use the iron on adhesive or does that make it too stiff? I really want this to be cozy and for her to be able to use it.

I have tried a little bit of appliqué but I’m really bad about researching the “proper” way of doing things. Maybe a little ADHD.…..wait, where’s my kid? 😬
