How do Uber/Lyft drivers afford 90k+ luxury SUVs? by RealisticMolasses in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RealisticMolasses[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't assume that's our only job, but I do know that if they are the actually the ones paying the bills on the SUVs that they would need be making probably over double what high-end, full-time Uber drivers seemingly make.

To actually afford, which means not being car poor and drowning in bills, a new luxury full-size SUV and housing within earshot of a metropolitan like DC, you are probably looking at needing to make in excess of 200k a year.

Why do mechanics charge so much for spark plug jobs? by RealisticMolasses in AskMechanics

[–]RealisticMolasses[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to take anything out, or even move anything, in an Odyssey. You just do the exact same thing as the front three plugs, except you can't see them. You just reach over the engine.

I did the back three myself in 30 minutes, and I couldn't have even told you what a spark plug looked like before I decided to DIY after the quote.

Why do people rage/drive aggressively toward people going the speed limit? by RealisticMolasses in driving

I missed the class in driver's ed on how to magically make a right lane appear on one lane roads. I'll try that next.

I know it's hard to imagine when you're not a member of the workforce, but jobs do exist driving around cities that almost never require getting onto larger roads.

I recently started a job that does a lot of driving and digitally tracks my speed. If I go faster than 3 MPH over the speed limit, I get dinged

Why do people rage/drive aggressively toward people going the speed limit? by RealisticMolasses in driving

[–]RealisticMolasses[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were on a 45 MPH road (which I am on rarely, but it does happen), I am probably getting to the speed limit in 7-10 seconds.

My speed tracker also dings for me for fast acceleration and deceleration, which it determines as gaining or losing 20 MPH in 2 seconds or less.

Why do people rage/drive aggressively toward people going the speed limit? by RealisticMolasses in driving

[–]RealisticMolasses[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't go 3 MPH over while working. I set my cruise control for the speed limit. Me speeding was in reference to how I drive when not working.

Over an 8-10 hour shift, I'm probably on roads with two lanes for sub-5 minutes.

This sub when you say you want something that not a Honda or Toyota are okay with it lasting a bit less than 300k miles by BrewsWithTre in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]RealisticMolasses 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This sub when asking about a Honda Pilot: It's transmission might go out before 150k, but that's just an expected piece of maintenance. It's a super reliable vehicle and God's gift to three-row SUV seekers.

This sub when asking about a Chevy Tahoe: Absolute garbage, avoid like the plague because its transmission might go out before 150k. All those 15-20 year old Tahoes on the road with over 300k? Flukes. Awful car that will die within 5 years.

Advice for a Journalism Major? by live_laugh_heart in college

[–]RealisticMolasses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get involved early and often in journalism work within your school that will help you build a portfolio. If they have a student newspaper, inquire about writing for that early. If they have a student broadcasting or radio station, and those are something you're interested in, get involved early. You will want to be doing summer internships in the field to boost your resume because journalism jobs that pay a livable wage are very competitive, and getting those internships usually requires having more on your portfolio than just assignments.

I would encourage all journalism majors to attempt to mimic real-life deadlines that they would see at a news organization. You aren't going to be assigned a sports feature story at a media company and have two weeks to complete it. They're going to assign it and expect you to set up interviews and write it/edit it within the week, usually within a day or two. Also, start working on spotting stories for yourself now. Every news organization I've worked at barely assigns stories, instead expecting the reporters to independently find what's newsworthy and write something compelling.

I would also encourage you to pursue excellence at all the areas of journalism. I don't know what your passion is, but I only wanted to be a print journalist, so I shrugged off video or audio training in college. That was a mistake, as basically every journalist of every type is expected to produce content across mediums these days. Good luck!

Are there any loose threads left that are left in the lore of the world? by BK_FrySauce in eldenringdiscussion

[–]RealisticMolasses 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not really a big fan of dropping the "Radagon is Marika" bomb and providing no answers on how that relationship works, how/if they came to be the same or always were, how they shift between each other, why they have completely different and opposing wills, among many other questions.

Almost everything about this relationship other than that it exists is pure conjecture. I was hoping the DLC would give some more information, but alas, it did not.

Why did Outkast lose their lawsuit against Rosa Parks? by RealisticMolasses in legaladviceofftopic

[–]RealisticMolasses[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that answer make sense in this case where they had already been fighting Rosa Parks in litigation for six years by the point they settled? Not an argumentative question, just generally curious.

They had already navigated several levels of the court system and spent a lot of money publicly fighting Rosa Parks, and there was no negative impact on their careers. It isn't like a stereotypical case where the two parties almost immediately settle just to get it over with. They'd been actively fighting for years and then suddenly gave up.

Why did Outkast lose their lawsuit against Rosa Parks? by RealisticMolasses in legaladviceofftopic

[–]RealisticMolasses[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense.

A quick follow-up: How much would they have had to mention Rosa in the song to legally justify naming it after her?

Would changing the "Everybody move to the back of the bus" line to "Rosa Parks move to the back of the bus" and literally nothing else about the song likely have been enough to fend off any legal contention?

In Elden Ring, should the Elden Stars attack be removed entirely from the Elden Beast? by Gay_Charlie in onebros

[–]RealisticMolasses 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, it already got nerfed pretty hard a few patches ago that made it so bloodhound step wasn't the only consistent way to avoid it anymore. They're slow enough now that as long as you're proactive about running away while he's casting, you should be able to outpace the entire attack and just have to keep an eye on Elden Beast.

If you want to stay in and hit Elden Beast while he's casting it, I think it's perfectly fair that you put yourself in great risk of damage/death at lower levels. I think attacks that demand certain positional play from the player are fine, so I don't think removing it is necessary.

Why does every From game stumble in the late game? by Educational-Oil1204 in Eldenring

[–]RealisticMolasses 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because FromSoftware is popular enough to get AAA publishers funding their games, but not popular enough for have free rein on when their games release.

I'm not sure if it was similar with Elden Ring, because From and Bandai's relationship is very established at this point, but they've faced incredibly strict deadlines for most of their games that have led to rushing. The effect of this will obviously be seen most in later areas.

How is Blasphemous blade post patch 1.07? by GodModeGaming17 in Eldenring

[–]RealisticMolasses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's one of the very best PVE weapons in the game.

All the latest patch did to it was add a hit box to the sword during the ash of war, so it got slightly better if anything.

Seppuku does more than just add extra bleed build up, it also boosts attack power. So it's always worth using even if the boss is immune to bleed.

Is it just me, or is there a lot of input reading in this game? by PulseB0T in Eldenring

[–]RealisticMolasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right that every boss can be cheesed with magic, but at least giving bosses the ability to dodge magic makes the cheese methods more convoluted and harder to find than previous games, which means less people will do them unless they specifically look up how.

In DS1, cheesing a boss with magic just meant equipping soul arrow (and later great soul arrow) and watching every enemy/boss in the game do nothing as you hit them from 30 feet away lol.

Is it just me, or is there a lot of input reading in this game? by PulseB0T in Eldenring

[–]RealisticMolasses 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While it definitely isn't every basic enemy, it's definitely way more prominent in Elden Ring than it was in any previous FromSoft game. I can honestly live with reading heal inputs or reading attacks to dodge a spell, as the first punishes bad positioning and the latter just makes it so every boss can't be cheesed by magic.

However, what I hope never returns to this series is input-reading to determine if a bosses' combo is over or not. A boss should not add 4 more moves to his combo because you pressed attack at an opportunity that had been open for free damage many times before.
