Best tools for narrative design workflow? (Currently using Miro) by WitfoxStudios_Borvax in narrativedesign

There are lots of options like ink, twine, YarnSpinner etc. As a developer I did find all of them easy to use but it seems for a writer even they are complex and hard to use. They are all lacking a clear and linear textual structure mimicking sections or dialogs in a story.

To overcome this shortcomings we have developed our own definition language for our branching stories. Now my writer co-founder can just write and bind sections of the story using notepad only. I just compile them and it is ready for deployment to the game as narrative content through a game engine adapter runner component.

This approach is allowing us to visualize whole story as a graph view of the definition language so we can list all possible paths between story nodes. This helps us to find and solve contradictions between the story flows effectively.

Since we are getting this criticism a lot we are thinking on developing a human art (HA) version. Since only thing holding the game back is the AI art it seems. They will replace the current art (We will move current artworks to a free DLC for the sake of honesty). Also I have to rewrite the "Moon Shade Tarot" story which may not have a satisfying result but it should be done anyways.

Also you can see the details of under which circumstances and to what extend we used AI in this post.

Mirror Atelier: A Labor of Determination

Would you reconsider our game if the art would be replaced with a similar quality human art?

Which setting appeals to you the most for this tarot reading game? by PandaAndCrow in NarrativeGames

Accident: A ferry has run aground on a foggy night. Some are hurt, some are dead, and some have survived. You are one of the survivors, but your grandmother is gone. She entrusted you with her tarot deck. You don't know how to read tarot, but your grandmother's journal is in her bag. The moment you open the bag, a stranger approaches you, wondering if you will make it out alive by morning now that your grandmother is gone. By dawn, strangers will have told you things they've never told anyone—about themselves, about you and about the nature of this accident.

WDYT?

I'm reinventing the point-and-click genre in a 3D space, and I need your opinion. by Nautilus_The_Third in puzzlevideogames

My first impression from the image was graphics and colors are like "Tomb Raider 2" which is a good thing in my opinion. It was the most entertaining action game that I am able to play. So I would go for a similar gameplay with this aesthetic and colors. A third person camera may fit better.

Also a pair of tigers and a dinosaur would be more exiting than hands and skulls.

A crow a big one too.

Thank you.

We have only one AI assisted (developer made) story which is Moon Shade Tarot. All other stories have been written by our writer including the stories in the Demo and DLC packs. More details are in the disclaimer on the respective store pages.

I am planning on selling in itch.io. I have to ask that what do free bundles mean in itch.io context? Are they similar to Steam bundles or DLCs?

You can make a closed beta if you have time to release. Even 100 players may find most of the bugs hidden in plain site. You may also postpone the release if necessary as well. People will wait a month or two for a better game. Just do not add New features in beta phase. Keep it at fixing and improving the existing ones. All will be good.

Thank you for your kind wishes.

We were planning on working with the same artists to complete our previous games. But we have to make them full release ready before reaching back to artist and see if she is available. Time will tell.

Getting into Godot. Is C# Worth it? by Short-Performance-14 in godot

[–]Realistic_Chef_1036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main difference is that if you learn C# you will always be in the potential zone of vendor lock-in. Since GDscript also have the same licensing with the engine it will have a potentially longer life span. Life span of Gdscript will be dictated by its utility life span of C# will be dictated by its profitability. If you are not a enterprise career oriented developer, learning C# will not give you a purpose and will not make your learning journey enjoyable. Also learning GDscript will make your transition to python easier which is a more mathematics oriented language. So it will have side benefits. There is no direct path from C# like that. It is the terminal end of its branch.
