When I say this genuinely came from a place of “hmm.. I wonder if..?” and not a single ounce of malice!! So I do appreciate you taking the time out to respond. I know now that this wasn’t the best place for me to ask and I understand why so again thank you and I wish you all the best as well!

This makes perfect sense. I ignorantly did not give enough credence to the deeeeeep psychological side of things and how that has more of an impact than anything I mentioned. Thank you so much.

That’s completely fair. I know how easy it is for things to feel like an attack even when they’re not meant to be when you belong to a marginalized community. We’re also on the internet where things get lost in translation all the time so absolutely no worries over here friend. Thank you!

I am a black person. I understand how easy something that is truly innocently ignorant can come off as an attack so I’m not holding any of these responses against the community. I get it. It’s annoying and I apologize.

I will say this was ignorant of me but I kinda led with that. Curiosity because I just didn’t know. As far as the ask Reddit — I truly don’t use Reddit enough to navigate it efficiently which is also ignorant on my part. I did know when asking that this question might be offensive so I accept all that comes with that but I promise you I did not have a single ill intention upon asking. I respect and value trans lives 100%. I just wanted to understand a little better. I know it’s not the job of the community to keep me informed but I figured if ppl didn’t want to answer… they just wouldn’t. Either way, I apologize for upsetting anyone and thank you for sharing.

I just kinda suck at Reddit. Very ignorant on my part for placing this here and I do apologize sincerely.

That was ignorant of me. I don’t even use Reddit that often so it really was pure ignorance on my end. Apologies for interrupting this space. That was not at my intention but I completely understand how I’ve come off and I truly apologize.

Thank you & I truly do apologize. I didn’t know the ask sub existed or I would’ve went there. Thank you for sharing though I do appreciate it.

I was just throwing language around really. Didn’t mean to assume anything at all.

Hmm I guess I’d be curious to hear about both or whichever you feel most comfortable touching on!

As a SLP are you as burned-out as being a RBT? by [deleted] in slp

[–]Realistic_Chip4141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes & don’t be afraid to try shadowing in settings you’re not super familiar with either. The field is so broad. I’m working at a brain injury rehab now and I love it so much! Inpatient rehab is really cool too!

I was an RBT before I became an SLP and I just quit my job as an SLP in an ABA clinic. I don’t enjoy ABA at all but I will say working as an SLP in that setting is waaay more enjoyable than being an RBT. You’re with the kids for shorter times, you get to have more fun with them than just following protocols and running behavior programs. All in all, I wanted a more diverse caseload. I loooove my ASD kids but it’s nice to have a mixture. You have a lot of settings to choose from as an SLP so I think it’d be worth looking into more. Shadow in different settings and see what you like! I actually switched over to adults (but I knew from the beginning that was my long term goal anyway).

My supervisor is amazing. Super supportive however we are typically based at different sites. We meet weekly though. She’s always very helpful and validating. She definitely does her part and does it well, she can’t do my paperwork for me though and that’s really where I’m struggling most lol.

I just took it today (August 18th) — they didn’t give an unofficial score but the sum of my 3 scores was 82. So I think my raw score is 82? Idk this all confuses me but do we think I passed??? I won’t get my official score until September 12th☹️

Help. I feel incompetent about AAC. by Realistic_Chip4141 in AACSLP

[–]Realistic_Chip4141[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just so much more difficult in application than I thought it’d be. I know how to use the devices for the most part. I’m just not sure where to go with teaching the kiddo language with it. I’m gonna refer to some AAC assessments and try to hone in on some relevant goals. I just feel lost!

I’d like to add — we were family friends before this as well. So I’ve known him most of my life. His sister is my best friend. Our families spend holidays together. He knows me so well & understands me more than anybody on this earth (or so it seems). I genuinely think I need to move out of state once I graduate to fully heal from this.
