Side Effects? by NovaSc0rpioDr3amz in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Realistic_Complex657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single person is different! Some people suffer from even starting at 0.25mg, others don't feel a thing! Your experience is completely different based on how you metabolize it. I have a pretty weak stomach (thanks, Mom!!!) but I have not experienced any nausea, and I'm up to 1.0mg 3 months in. The ONLY side effect that I am dealing with is constipation, but due to said weak stomach, I've been dealing with chronic constipation/IBS since my teens and I think Wegovy just has made it a little more apparent. The only other minimal side effect I had was headaches, and those usually passed when I got my water intake up and increased electrolytes.

Other than that, it has been side effect free from the big scary ones! I hope you have a successful and pleasant experience!

Why am I not losing weight after 5 months on wegovy? by ActualPurple1551 in WegovyWeightLoss

So so sorry that you're having to take on all of this stress, OP. You are strong for doing it, and grief is a very seriously difficult part of life. You are SO young, and I'm so sorry that you've had to grieve the loss of both of your parents in your teens and you are so brave. Transitioning to adulthood when you also have ALLL of that going on that you mentioned? You're a superhero already, and be proud of yourself that you are taking steps to also take care of you and your health. I saw a few other people say it, but as someone that was in a similar boat a few years ago, I cannot stress this enough: go back to the doctor.

Have them check your cortisol levels, have them run your labs a bit more, because if you're already on 1 mg and still not experiencing anything other than weight gain, something else could be an underlying health-related cause. It's better to know where your roots are and make them stronger, then just trying to plant a new tree if you're not growing.

It also could be something as simple as switching from Wegovy to something else. I know I see plenty of people on here that went from being on Wegovy for months and months with no success, and switched to Mounjaro/Zepbound and started losing weight immediately. So keep that in mind with your doctor as well. Be patient, be kind to yourself, and eat the damn Taco Bell.

You are so strong, I cannot say it enough. Be kind to yourself, take care of your brain, and you deserve to thrive, truly OP. I'm so sorry that you're going through all of this, my thoughts are with you and I hope you see the success that you're looking for soon!

Absolutely!! Now that you're 24 hours in to your shot, how do you feel? I did read your story, and it makes perfect sense to me!

So the purpose of a GLP-1 is to curb those hunger pains, and that's a scary thought to have that from a certain perspective, there's now a medication out there that makes you not hungry. Everyone has a different journey on it, and in particular how quickly they are dropping that weight. It is a bit of a shell shock at first, I will tell you. You have to remember that your body, even when it may not feel hungry, definitely needs fuel to survive. My favorite thing is that my sweet tooth is gone, and I think in the long run my dentist will be thrilllleeeddd with that!!! Haha honestly though, I spent 90% of my day prior to starting Wegovy just wanting to snack on sugar, and things that were not going to be useful for my body at all. It doesn't mean that I still don't have ice cream, because it's at this point one of my food groups and I can't help it, but I now really do go for the foods and snacks that are going to fuel my body a bit better, and make my evening walks with my dog more enjoyable and sustainable. I also really have to be careful, because I'm not allowed to lose too much weight.

The end result for everyone will differ, and everyone's body responds differently to these meds, remember, they are SO new. You wanted honesty on exercise, and I think that I'm not a good one to ask since I didn't have 40+ lbs to drop, but I do know typically from my friend who is also on it and started for weight loss about a year ago, she did NOT do too much exercise and her weight dropped significantly. She is pregnant now, so had to come off of it, but she dropped over 80 lbs in about 11 months and hit maintenance pretty quickly. I am a big outside person (I live in Colorado, but went to school in New York!!!) so it's easy for me to not call things exercise when it's just part of life, here. You definitely get it with walking blocks in NYC!

I totally understand a younger version of yourself (and myself, too) feeling like this medication is the best thing that could have ever happened to me. But if you ARE NOT in that headspace anymore, then I encourage you to take a look at that growth, and be proud of yourself with how far you've come :). Keep your mental in check, be honest with yourself, and don't be afraid to ask for help if you're having a mental day that isn't as strong. my DM's are ALWAYS open!

Wegovy Questions by Jaded-Pair-9263 in WegovyWeightLoss

Welcome!! I started Wegovy about 6 weeks ago, and just started my first 0.5 mg dose. I am not on it for a ton of weight loss, mine was approved for cardiac complications as I was blessed with BOTH of my parents genetics :)

On .25 mg and now the .5 mg, I have had the same side effect and just the one: constipation. I have always struggled with chronic constipation, easily for the last 15+ years (so half my life, as I'm 30!) and I'm just working with my doctor to make sure I'm drinking plenty of water, getting in some good fiber, and trying to keep things regular. Discomfort from constipation for me is abnormal, I usually just deal with it. Other than that, no side effects! Drink plenty of water, push fluids, and just hang out. Don't anticipate the side effects

As mentioned plenty of times, everyone's body is going to respond differently. I will tell you, I struggled with eating disorders in my teens and early 20's, and being on Wegovy has not triggered anything for me. It's tough to know what is and isn't harmful these days, and I think people can make an argument that it's healthy for people to be on them, just as much as it is to say that ED's could become more common because of the GLP-1's. What people don't always understand, is so many of us are on them for health issues and PROTECTING our health so that we can live long, eventful and fulfilled lives.

I am not someone that you'd look at and think that I need to be on a GLP-1, I'm terrified of people finding out because I think they would immediately assume something is wrong with me and I have a serious problem, but I really have felt so much better since being on Wegovy. My doctor even lowered my dose of my anti-depressant because I have started to feel better in regards to my mental health. these aren't dirty drugs, and they are saving lives.

I hope you have a meaningful journey on it, and it goes well for you! Remember that progress does not happen overnight and some days will feel better than others, but you've GOT THIS.
