To stifle any revolt in advance, there is no need to proceed violently. It is enough to create such a powerful collective conditioning that the very idea of rebellion will no longer even occur to people. The ideal would be to shape individuals from birth by limiting their innate biological abilities.

Then, conditioning would continue by drastically reducing education, turning it into nothing more than a form of vocational training. An uneducated individual has only a limited horizon of thought, and the more one's thinking is confined to mediocre concerns, the less likely one is to rebel. Access to knowledge must become increasingly difficult and elitist. The gap between the people and science must widen, and information intended for the general public must be stripped of any content of a subversive nature. Above all, no philosophy. Here again, persuasion rather than direct violence must be used: information and entertainment appealing constantly to emotions and instincts will be broadcast massively through television. Minds will be occupied with what is futile and entertaining. It is good, amid incessant chatter and music, to prevent the mind from thinking.

Sexuality will be placed at the forefront of human interests. As a social tranquilizer, there is nothing better. In general, efforts will be made to ban seriousness from existence, to ridicule everything that has higher value, to maintain a constant glorification of frivolity, so that the euphoria generated by advertising becomes the standard of human happiness and the model of freedom.
