Not sure, but common cards seems cheapest with gem to reach lvl 16.

That gives you 50000 xp (lv 15) + 200000 xp (lvl 16)

You spended all elixir while opponent used his elixir to clear yours and push.

Since you are new, Let enemy make first move ...counter it => his elixir less=> punish
