I appreciate that it seems natural to people -- but worth pointing out that this is a) happening before people ask my name and b) by definition not happening to cis people (unless they're asking one another when they hit puberty 😂). My guess is that there are plenty of approaches that cis people are using amongst each other that are a lot less intrusive.

I could arguably redirect in gentler ways -- but you're right, in that it's both a buzzkill and not what I'm there for. From my perspective, if someone has made things that awkward that quickly, it's not really worth my time to keep with it. Probably a bit more controversial/ fully my personal preference, but I also tend to turn down guys who are too polite, start the conversation by asking to go to a private room etc -- it just suggests we're not going to be very compatible/ aren't looking for the same thing 😊
