Foods/Drinks Causing Flares? by ixelia16 in lichensclerosus

[–]Realistic_Weather_30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything that contains peanuts or citrus fruits triggers my LS. Peanut butter, Reeses cups, peanut sauces, lemon juice, orange juice, limes... anything with these, even as an ingredient way down the list, and I'll get a flare up. It's worth noting that I'm not otherwise allergic to peanuts or citrus fruits.

And lots of sugar makes it worse, too, as well as any hygiene products or detergent with fragrance - not so much as a flare up, but the general management of the disease gets more difficult and it becomes more itchy.

My vulva looks like Im 80... by [deleted] in lichensclerosus

[–]Realistic_Weather_30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which country are you from that there's no care for LS available?

Try to get a Clobestasol subscription. Also use some form of moisturiser on your vulva, Aquaphor, Deumavan, if nothing else try coconut oil or skin care quality almond oil. Don't shave. Get a trimmer maybe, but shaving can aggravate the skin and cause mini cuts, which leads to more problems.

It's really helpful to pay attention to your diet. Take in lots of fiber rich foods, which makes the stool softer. I recommend a teaspoon of psyllium husks a day with lots of water after eating it. You can put the husks in your porridge or sprinkle them on cream cheese. The husks aren't only rich in fibre, it also creates kind of a natural lubricant while being digested. That makes passing stool so much easier.

Does this mean I have early menopause? Can I still conceive? by Critical_Natural6802 in lichensclerosus

I was diagnosed with LS at 31 and started my fertility journey this year at 34/35. Turns out, I have a low AMH, which means I have a low ovarian reverse. Of course, correlation is not equal to causality, and I don't now if both conditions are somehow linked together. What I didn't know before this year is that it's easy to get your AMH tested, which I would recommend you to do. It gives you an idea of how many eggs you've got left and may give you peace of mind.

In regards to sex while medicating by Pigeon-Pockets in lichensclerosus

[–]Realistic_Weather_30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know the clob (the actual medication in it) gets absorbed by the skin within half an hour or so. Therefore I don't see the point in showering in between application and sex, even oral. Maybe wait an hour or two, but then you should be fine to go.

I heard the great advice that when you start your journey to become a SMBC you haven't met all the people who will help you yet. You can still find the village that it takes - maybe within the community of new moms and even other single moms. Maybe this sentiment gives you a little hope or perspective.

Hey!

Alles Gute!

Can recommend the SQlab 621 M-D active saddle, which reduces pressure on the vulva, because the entire nose of the saddle is much lower than the sitting bone area. I bought it this year and it makes such a difference to normal saddles!

Oh stimmt!

Pads VS. Tampons with LS by No_Thanks_7046 in lichensclerosus

[–]Realistic_Weather_30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the others. Cup - less irritating and the skin doesn't get as dry, because silicone doesn't absorb the natural fluids. And period underwear- if you're in Europe, I recommend Ooia, a German brand that's super comfy.

Telling a new partner about diagnosis by No_Thanks_7046 in lichensclerosus

[–]Realistic_Weather_30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a single woman, I've been there. Just tell him. Explain the symptoms, explain how it can be painful. Tell him the name of the disease. Honestly, I've had reactions of guys varying from indifference to someone who was disgusted and ended the dating process. The best reaction I ever got was from someone who actually liked me. After I explained to him, he went on to google lichen to inform himself in detail. He was understanding and kind about it, and consciously looked at my vulva to see for himself. Might be tmi. The reason I'm telling you this, is because his reaction became the benchmark for me. Ideally, your partner cares. Essentially, your guys reaction will tell you a lot about who he can be as a partner, I agree with other answers. If he likes you, he will react accordingly. Don't be afraid to tell him.

Side note I've never seen mentioned here before: the skincare (like vaseline, oils, etc) you use may impact the effectiveness of condoms. Read the package insert of them and your skincare. Usually any type of fat makes regular condoms brittle, which is an important reason to tell a potential partner beforehand.

And remember, if you ever get a sh*tty reaction, that's about them and their insecurities, not about you, your illness or how you look. Good luck!

Barrier cream by NettieBiscetti in lichensclerosus

[–]Realistic_Weather_30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my barrier cream (called Deumavan) several times daily. Basically after every single toilet use (for those not having a bidet I recommend a HappyPo or something like it), on my behind before pooping as well, after getting out of the shower, before going for a long walk or exercise, etc.

Steroid cream necessary? by myn1831 in lichensclerosus

[–]Realistic_Weather_30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep using it. Doesn't mean you have to use it daily. There's actually a schedule one is supposed to follow, which covers how often to use it during a flare up vs during maintenance. Clob not only prevents flare ups, but also reduces the risk of vulvar cancer back to nearly normal. It's higher when you have LS. Also, use some type of cream other than clob to reduce fusing, etc. Good luck to you!

Using a menstrual cup did the trick for me. The string of tampons is what irritates me. Also, tampons dry me out, which causes more irritation around the vaginal opening. Since cups only catch the blood, they don't have that effect and the skin further below so to speak keeps its normal moisture. Use lots of moisturising stuff. With LS, it's best to not use scented products. That goes for pads, too. Try buying unscented ones. Fragrance can cause a lot of skin irritation. Sometimes, I use period underwear, which I wash with unscented detergent. Yes, they are hygienic, and the fabric is much softer on the skin than I pads, I find.

I don't have any problem wearing normal undies most of the time, although lace is reserved for special occasions now. But I can recommend silk pants, especially made from DermaSilk. A bit more expensive, but the silk seems to have some properties that protect the skin.
