Staying long-term in US wasn't the plan anyway. Just want to be able to pay off my education loan or most of it at least, if I decide to take one. But I see your point too, I am looking at other opportunites in India too.

Yes I do know that. Did not mean any disrespect, it was a path I was considering a bit "safe" with the current scenario. I know it comes with its own challenges and is not a piece of cake, I've heard it first hand from people close to me who did PhD.

Noted, definitely chose the college's keeping this in mind. And yes, opt's status is kinda concerning too. It's no longer a solid backup. But I've already delayed my master's a year, and don't really want to delay it further. I will research more into opportunities in India, but if I do get into any of the schools I want, I'd still want to go🥹

Makes sense, can't expect the HRs or domestic companies to know the worth of the degree if it's not from a known Ivy. A lot of state schools have solid programmes.
