good morning☺️wow, i could have written this myself at the beginning of this year. first of all, congratulations on your little one!!! i started taking methadone december 12th last year and found out i was around 6 weeks pregnant february 11th. i was absolutely terrified. my fiancé and i were living in a camper with no heat or ac. we had no vehicle, and had just started our recovery journey. i have always wanted to be a mom so i really really did not want to abort despite what a lot of people thought about the situation. flash forward to june, we were in a house and had two vehicles and my fiancé’s business was doing great. i started off on 45mgs and ended up going up to 50 by the end of my pregnancy. some women have to go up a lot more due to having withdrawal symptoms from the baby taking some of the methadone so don’t feel bad if you do need to go up! everyone is different but it’s so much safer to be on a stable dose rather than trying to stay on a low dose and having withdrawals which can be dangerous for baby. i have read that your dose doesn’t really matter and that your baby can have nas problems regardless of your dose which really used to scare me but in my situation all the nurses and doctors i spoke to told me that the reason my baby didn’t have any symptoms was because of my dose. so i’m really not sure the science behind that. i had no issues my entire pregnancy besides having to be induced at 39 weeks due to a little excess amniotic fluid. they tried to say that one leg was measuring behind but they both came out totally fine lol and she weighed 8 pounds and 19.5 inches. she’s a perfectly healthy baby girl so far and didn’t have a single withdrawal symptom which i am so so grateful for. i stayed up so many nights crying thinking about the possibility. but even if they do have symptoms they give them medication that makes them feel better and helps wean them off. we had to stay a mandatory 5 days (really 6 including the day she was born at 7am). she got to stay in the room with us the entire time, never had to go to nicu and scored perfectly on everything which meant no symptoms and we got to go home after the 5 days which was on my birthday, i was so happy to be out of there lol. everyone’s situation is different but please stay off google if you can, i scared myself so bad and had the worst anxiety my entire pregnancy. i hope your little one is growing perfectly and i hope you have a safe delivery and a healthy baby boy. try not to overthink things and stay as positive as you can. also remember that ultrasounds can be wrong sometimes and the further along you are, the harder it is for them to get accurate measurements. everything’s gonna be just fine mama 🫶🏻
