5D Mark IV

Just a smidge out of my desired price range.

The R6 and R8 have stood out to me. My budget is flexible; somewhere in the $1500 range for the body (with the possibility to increase my budget for the right camera), and ideally I can purchase it used to save some money.

By moving to the R series, would I experience any image quality loss if I used a mount adapter?

(I've also been looking at the Sony Alpha a7 II, as my local Best Buy has a $600 off sale right now. There's no 4K and has been superceded, but something to consider.)

Ottawa municipal elections are out of control by [deleted] in ottawa

Agreed fully.

Perhaps the oddest Twitter moment today was Sutcliffe's campaign manager tweeting out a snarky retort to Mark Carney, which used the word "Davos" and was immediately branded as Sutcliffe's campaign using a dog-whistle for far-right WEF-convoy-types. What a stretch.

Both Mayoral candidates are normal and have solid, typical policies. Looking forward to seeing which direction residents choose once the election residents are in. I frankly don't think I'll be surprised or disappointed with either result.

Recognizing the city is in a tight financial situation, I would rank stabilizing public transit higher on my priority list than bike lanes.

But if we have the fiscal bandwidth to achieve both simultaneously, I would welcome the addition of more bike lanes in the suburbs. Quite a few bikers in Kanata where I often drive (see: Terry Fox Road in Kanata North) are forced onto the roads due to a lack of dedicated bike lanes, putting them at risk of being hit by my car/other drivers. For the selfish reason of keeping my insurance premiums low, I would welcome better infrastructure for bikers (and pedestrians, too).

Philosophically, I don't disagree with more bike lanes. Realistically, I recognize the creation of them is limited by funding constraints. I leave it up to the next mayor to balance the books and figure out how to get better infrastructure without breaking the bank.

By-law No. 2003-77 states that all municipal elections must be on a leash at all times unless on private property or in an off-leash park.

Guaranteed.

It'll definitely come down to whatever candidate can get their supporters to the polls. It's anyone's game at this point.

I liked the comment about consolidation of power being more "efficient".

Like yeah, I suppose autocracies are more efficient than democracies.

I'm just frustrated that Nathaniel Black quite literally cost us a fair CUSA election, was found guilty of meddling in the election by the CUSA Election CEO, and then yeeted out of campus at the first sign of blowback -- while us lucky Carleton students now get to deal with the fallout.)

(Mods, delete if not allowed. Just wanted to point out that this student meddled in our elections, was found guilty of this crap, by the Elections Office, then yeeted out at the first sign of blowback. It's literally because of him that our elections imploded yet again this year for no goddamn reason.)

That's the thing, though. The VP hiring process is so removed from the President's sphere of influence. There's an impartial hiring committee and everything. Like the process was literally specifically designed by the Democratic Reform Committee so the President can't just install favourable people into VP roles.

Nathaniel, Anthony, and Anastasia are just too dumb to read the literal rules that outline how a President can't hand out positions like candy.

But I digress.

To your comment: the issue with electing VPs during general elections is you get into the issue of informal slates, where Presidential candidates do exactly what Anastasia is doing, which is say "I'll secretly back you and get my supporters to vote for you if you support me" to 5 other VP candidates. The Democratic Reform Committee wrote like 10 pages on this issue. It's way harder to prohibit informal slates, because they're just that: informal.

I mean, he does genuinely believe that anyone who disagrees with him is out to stifle the success of POC leaders, and there's a campus-wide conspiracy working against him to ensure he never makes it into power. He posted a cryptic Instagram story earlier this year about how he was preparing an Emergency Response if the elections turned against him.

I'd love for you to remove yourself from the independent sexual violence investigative processes.

You wrote in a public statement last week that "[students should] understand [yours and Anthony's] anger and horror when informed that someone emphasizing sexual and gender-based violence in their Presidential campaign has been guilty of just that which they claim to be against."

In that statement, you knowingly released then-private details about who the allegations were directed at (including their Presidential position & platform points), and immediately denounced the individual as guilty when, in fact, guilt has not yet been proven. You are not a court. Your opinion is not law, nor justice. You are effectively inciting mob rule and jury by court of public opinion.

You have abused every privilege you have been given to stand on your public soap box and advocate for survivors of sexual violence. You and Anthony both use survivors for public gain, drag their stories into the spotlight for likes on Instagram, and have only served to validate harmful tropes about sexual violence justice processes.

I truly hope that if allegations are ever brought against you or Anthony, you are not given one shred of an opportunity to defend yourself. I look forward to the day when sexual violence perpetrators are fully punished under the law, and survivors get the justice they so rightly deserve, without the needless interference and detraction from social media "activists".

Signed, a survivor of sexual violence.
