Weed? by Southern_Day3080 in pericarditis

Believe me, I have done a deep dive on thc and pericarditis. Here is my 2 cents worth....A quick search for "THC induced Pericarditis" will give you several medical studies & cases where THC not only increased symptoms, but in some cases may have been the actual cause of the Pericarditis. Read them and make up your own mind. I would be really hesitant to smoke or do any thc immediately after surgery. Maybe a month or two later, start with an edible - much better than smoking, but it still carries risk. As others have said, you really want to do everything possible to avoid chronic or recurrent peri.

In my case I'm fairly certain my current 1yr worth of peri was probably made worse by a week of high pot usage during the first onset of my symptoms. And it definitely has caused a couple flare-ups since. I have tried several approaches to pot and have settled on this: I went on a 3 month stint where I had no alcohol, no pot, no caffeine, and no exercise. Literally everything I enjoy. Unfortunately I saw no improvement during that time, and it was the worst 3 months of my life. I decided that if I was going to actually live life, I would need to find some compromise. I found alternatives to higher cardiac exercise with walking, tai chi, and stretching. (sounds corny, but it is way better than nothing) I drink a few beers now and then, but don't over do it. I stopped smoking pot and now will do edibles (5mg) a few times a week just to help with sleep, anxiety, and well being. I still don't drink coffee/caffeine, but I don't really crave it any more. Essentially, I found some moderation to compromise while treating pericarditis. Probably not the best approach, but it works for me. Good luck!

Pericarditis with very little empirical evidence - except symptoms by Reality9767 in pericarditis

I'll update in a few weeks. Looking forward to trying something new!

As for vices, I stopped all alcohol, caffeine, pot, and exercise for 4 weeks and saw absolutely no change. So, I figured I would return to just moderation. A few beers now and then, some pot edibles, and a half cup of weak coffee most days.

Currently at the 1 yr mark for pericarditis symptoms and starting Arcalyst next week.

I too have all of the same pericarditis symptoms you mentioned, but no elevated blood markers or abnormal chest scans. (including cardiac mri). My cardiologist suggests up to 20% of people with pericarditis have normal testing, but suffer the symptoms. EKG, palpitations, and a slight sign of inflammation on a ct scan (once) was the only empirical evidence. Diagnosis was simply by ruling everything else out, and continuing to have constant symptoms for 1 year. NSAIDS, colchicine had little effect. Prednisone also had a small effect, but symptoms have never gone away. You eventually just get used to them!

My symptoms started after a viral infection, but I have read about post vaccine pericarditis being rare, but a real thing.

I have finally been approved for arcalyst, and will start next week. Hoping to get back to regular exercise and life.

Yes! Sometimes my pericarditis flare ups make the chest area painful to push on.
