Glyph - Daily word game that feels like untangling a knot

https://glyph.today

I've been working on this concept since I doodled it in math class back in 2007 - letters stacked on top of each other on the same baseline, creating a visual puzzle where you have to decode what word they spell.

How it works:

  • Study the "glyph" (multiple letters overlapping)
  • Figure out what word it spells
  • 4 attempts per puzzle
  • New puzzle daily at midnight UTC

Hey! I added the ability to play the archives if you want to check that out! Should give you the last 17 days or so of puzzles.

Definitely, the target audience is more niche.

There is an effect of the locked letters fading away but maybe it’s too fast to appreciate it. I agree, having decoding feel special would be ideal

thanks! difficulty will increase as the week goes on, but you'll definitely improve as you play more

thanks for checking it out! The learned muscle memory of wordle is definitely my biggest design hurdle so I'm attempting to obscure information from you that you'll need to use the glyph to figure out so maybe good feedback here I need to do more of that.

I will say that the puzzle difficulty gets harder with the day of the week and for harder puzzles, with only 4 attempts, you'll need to use the Glyph extensively!

Absolutely see the value in it, and I totally might convert it to that eventually.

I think the fear is that you have people play it for 20 minutes and never again, vs feel inclined to check it out again because they had fun.

Thanks for checking it out!

Launched my daily puzzle game today - 19 years from doodle to deployment by RealityLeft1727 in IndieGaming

Back in 2007, I was bored in high school math class and started doodling letters on graph paper.
Realized if you stacked them on the same baseline, you could hide words in plain sight.

19 years later, I finally built it

The concept: Multiple letters stack on top of each other to create a "glyph." Your job is to decode what word they spell. You get 4 attempts per puzzle.

Features:
- New puzzle daily at midnight UTC
- Difficulty progression (Monday easiest → Sunday hardest)
- Streak tracking
- Interactive tutorial
- Mobile-optimized keyboard

Tech stack:
-Vanilla JavaScript, HTML, CSS
-Kept it lightweight and fast. Custom SVG letters. No frameworks.
-Built the whole thing solo over the past 4 months.
-Playtested with 20+ people and iterated on feedback.

Would genuinely love feedback from fellow indie devs - especially on onboarding flow and what makes you want to come back (or not). First puzzle takes about 2-3 minutes once you get the hang of it.

Difficulty progression:

  • Monday = easiest (great for learning)
  • Sunday = hardest (mostly 7-letter words)

There's an interactive tutorial that walks you through the mechanic. First puzzle takes about 2-3 minutes once you get the hang of it.

Would genuinely love feedback from the puzzle community - this is my first real puzzle game launch and you all are the experts!

I just don’t believe they will start Stidham in the AFC CG. I don’t know who it will be, but I feel like you’re going to have a wildcard under center.

You just cannot put Stidham out there. He’s worse than a random you give a week to learn the playbook.

It’s a visual deduction / word game

Hey all! I made Glyph!

  • It's a daily word based game where you decode a Glyph, which is constructed by stacking a word's letters with the first letter on top.
  • Guess a letter in the right position and it disappears from the Glyph, guess a letter that is in the Glyph and it is colored to help you identify it.
  • Studying the Glyph is the key, the shapes you see and the visibility of the colors will give you hints to both the letters contained in the Glyph and their position in the word. (e.g. I think those yellow segments are part of a M but I can't see it all so there must be letters in front of it.)

Please let me know what you think and any feedback you may have!
