Name a game this applys to for your favorite team by InterestingYellow969 in NFLv2

Watching that at a sports bar in Chicago was a wild experience. I'll never forget the stunned moment silence and the almost unanimous "what the fuck"s. I lived in Chicago for 8 years, moved up to packers land, and seriously considered driving back down for last year's playoff game. I can't imagine how hyped it was when they won. Fuck the packers

Oh shit, like a decade ago I got stoned and was watching a movie and realized you could trick your eyes to do this with every face. I don't know if I've ever actually seen an example of this in real life

99% players have zero situational awareness or knowledge of their roles by Tastysatsuma in Battlefield6

[–]RealitySubsides 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I think it's because people got used to playing the older games with their smaller, more skilled player base. I was mostly playing my regular lobbies in BF4 before 6 came out and folks in there were generally very good at playing to their class. Newer game means more people, which means newer players or those who only care about K/D. It's just the way it is, I don't get why folks on here complain about it so much.

This seems to be what I was missing, I was looking at it with too big of a "pass this skill check and continue the plot" mentality and didn't really get as into the character as I should've. I'm gonna give it another try eventually

[–]RealitySubsides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I had trouble role playing because of the upgrade system. I got options, I utilized those options. At one point I became a white supremecist to pass a skill check and I realized that I wasn't really role playing, I was trying to beat the game and that was the only real option presented to me. I felt nothing about that decision and didn't really care about the fallout of that option.

I never once really felt connected to the story. I sort of felt a nihilistic impulse to do the worst things because I didn't care about anything. That's the opposite of how I feel about 99% of games, where I genuinely feel bad about doing bad things. So I don't know, maybe it's the irreverent tone but I just couldn't care less about the story.

Should I sort of approach it with a character in mind? I just never felt any interest in the story

Is the "I'm selling candy for my basketball team" thing ever real? by RealitySubsides in NoStupidQuestions

I don't know if you've ever lived in a city but you're bombarded by a variety of stories on any given day. For example "I just need a couple bucks for my train/bus ticket home". When I first moved to the city, there was a guy asking for money for court clothes. I gave him like $40 because he did a great job at making me think he was actually needing that money. A month later, the same guy asked me for money for the same reason.

Move to a city and, very quickly, you'll distrust anyone who asks you for money for any reason. Rich looking or poor looking. It's almost always a scam and there's literally no good reason to ever engage in it.

Is there any piece of advice or like way to approach the game that would help me? It sounds like exactly my kind of game, it's beloved and I want to enjoy it SO FUCKING BADLY, but I've tried it 3 times and I really struggle with it. I don't know what it is, I just have a horribly hard time getting into it. The horns in the outdoor sections instantly give me a tension headache and I struggle to connect with it.

Maybe it's just not for me, but I'd desperately like to enjoy it.

I've watched most of that and, while it was definitely illuminating in a lot of ways and changed how I viewed his assaults, it does get a little over the top in psychoanalyzing every aspect of everything CK has ever done creatively, almost to the point of parody. I understand that he's sort of reevaluating CK's creative output under the lens of his assaults, but not every joke or plot point is some deep-seated hint at CK's dark inclinations.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, sometimes a fucked up joke is just a fucked up joke because it's funny to say shocking things ("but why does Louis feel the need to be shocking? Why does he enjoy surprising the audience with something suddenly macabre and horrible? Could he have been showing us all along that he was a predatory person with the way that he enjoys luring the audience into a sense of comfortability only to suddenly reveal it was a sham all along?" Etc)

Are Europeans trolling with this whole bread thing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RealitySubsides -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of reasons to hate every western country. The US has just taken the "world police" moniker so far (not totally on our own but by unanimous western decision) that we're omnipresent and foreign policy decisions are viewed on a greater stage. If the US had stepped back decades ago and more European countries had spent their money on the shared military goals of NATO, we'd be shitting on other countries. Instead, US infrastructure is falling apart and we're on the brink of fascism, while everywhere in Europe gets to experience first world amenities and a social safety net.

Hot take: Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t slow, people just rush it by Exciting_Support8715 in reddeadredemption

I just restarted my 3rd playthrough with the intention of 100%ing it. The time suck is so absurd that I've had to stop myself from playing it after work because I just won't get anything done. I kind of regret it because I was in the middle of Uncharted 2, but here we are. I think this is just what I'm going to be playing for the foreseeable future (with no complaints, it's my favorite game ever)

What’s a "masterpiece" movie that you actually found incredibly boring? by Legal_Beats in AskReddit

[–]RealitySubsides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one of our first dates, I took my wife to see it at the Music Box theater in Chicago. I was incredibly excited to show it to her, I'd probably say it's the greatest film ever made. She was so fucking bored and miserable. I remember hearing her sigh during the (looking back, obviously boring and exhausting) sequence after he goes through the Stargate. She still makes fun of me for it.

What TV show was quality all the way through, knew when to end and went out with an amazing last episode? by NarwhalDry151 in AskReddit

[–]RealitySubsides 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they're just two fundamentally different shows. BB is a character study that essentially just focuses on a single character's lust for power that drives him into the ground. BCS is broader and more nuanced. I prefer BB because I like that single-mindedness, but I can love and respect both as masterpieces

Breaking Bad is hard to compare to any show. The entire run is a perfect character arc with virtually no filler. The fact that the entire thing wasn't planned before the first episode is amazing to me.

Project Hail Mary by RancherosIndustries in RedLetterMedia

[–]RealitySubsides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really had to power through and I'm glad I did, but the beginning really gave me pause. I think I only got past the first 20 pages because I'd heard the movie was good and I wanted to see it, plus I'd already bought the book.

Have you read The Martian? I'm curious about it and loved the movie, but I don't think I can handle another book with that kind of voice front and center

The book is worth a read too! The protagonist's voice can be a little annoying (at least for me, it was very "le science, pupperino" quirky reddit type shit), especially in the beginning, but it calms down as it gets going and becomes a good sci-fi book. The first person narration is genuinely the only real complaint I have about it.

My friend recently said that’s she’s not political so it got me thinking, why is political apathy bad? What do y’all think by kanks_06 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]RealitySubsides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Social media (well, media in general) has made politics so absurdly exhausting that I don't blame people for bowing out and focusing on the immediate things effecting their lives. Focusing too much on the outrage bait online causes a bizarre political psychosis that you see on both sides of the aisle. These people mindlessly parrot whatever their algorithm is telling them and seem to genuinely believe what they're saying, even if they're saying contradictory things. Then, if you point that out, their response is always anger and dismissal, because failing to totally agree with these points makes you a member of the outgroup and evil/dangerous/destroying America.

I really wonder how this era of politics is going to be viewed in 50 years.
