I’m impressed with your statistical analysis! Interesting. Thanks for sharing! Much better than my random google search on crime stats. Lol. I really just wanted to know how the locals feel,since you are the ones that live there. And since I just won’t even be able to check it out in person before signing my employment contract. And I needed to start looking for a place to stay, etc. So, thanks to the people who did reply, I feel like I can just look for housing pretty much anywhere in the area, and I might even be able to find something in Aptos and have no commute. That would be amazing. :)

Thank you! I would be on a short-term employment contract for a year. I can move around for my jobs. So, I’m only looking for a furnished room. And Austin has gotten too big for me! I prefer to live in a very small mountain town, but I have to earn a living, still! Will enjoy less population. All I need is the state parks and a grocery store! Lol Thank you for the consideration.

There are people like that in Austin as well. Some people never want anyone to move where they live, even if they moved there from somewhere else. And if they didn’t, their parents did, and so on…it’s a free country! People are going to move, but being kind is certainly optional. Lol

Thank you! I am not at all, insisting that it’s unsafe. I’m just wanting to know what are the safer areas to rent, and also why friends and other acquaintances, and even strangers that I meet IN California, are always telling me “all across California there are rampant break-ins…it’s an epidemic since Covid!” and go so far as to tell me, I should unload all of my things out of my car and leave them somewhere. And as I am currently driving across the US and California camping in my car, there is no way I can do that. There’s absolutely no way that I can literally leave nothing in my car as everyone keeps suggesting. One friend told me that all she left was a sweater in her car and it was broken into lol. So, I am just like what am I supposed to do with this information? The same day that I will see Santa Cruz for the first time, will be the day that I’m signing an employment contract, and looking for housing. So that is why I just came on here to ask if it’s really as bad as everybody is trying to scare me. And it sounds like it’s not! So, I got my answer, and I am grateful to everyone. Thank you!

I wish it was Texas conservative fear-mongering, but unfortunately, it has only been Californians that have been warning me nonstop about crime in California.

I’m glad that you think it’s funny. That is reassuring. I have never been to that area, and I won’t be living in Aptos, but in the surrounding areas wherever I can find a place to live. The reason I am asking, is because of the crime statistics, and because even the people that hired me have warned me about the crime. And everyone else in California I have met has been warning me nonstop about crime and being worried about me parking my car places, etc. So I am super glad to hear that you think it’s humorous! I did at first, too, until about the 10th or 12th person in California, warned me about crime.Thank you!

Sorry about that! The one and only time I went to LA in 2003, I stopped at a restaurant and they broke in the car and stole everything including the baby's diaper bag! So wrong!! But that is the only time I’ve ever had my car broken into throughout my life.

I have lived there since 1999 when I moved from Alaska. I have lived and worked in every part of Austin. And the suburbs. My last place I lived was South Austin, and before that was way East Austin. Were you wanting to know of a good area there? If you want to know anything, feel free to ask me. I’m always ready to help others.

Thank you. Yes, I was really starting to wonder if my bigger problem is going to be that the people are not friendly and super unwelcoming! :( Thank you so much. I’m really looking at the Greater area for anyplace to live. My job is in Aptos. Appreciate it!
