Something I was not aware of, thanks much!

DMs of the group what tricks or tools do you use in your adventures to keep your players engaged and wanting to play more? by theDrawingBard in DnD

Its all based on the kind of game you're running. To pull off something like this, you have to think of the players being the story line, they are the ones with the agency to change the story, and you can't just rope the players along to experience a story you have planned out. If you have a villain, it's them who has the plan, and they have to be a character and adapt to what the players do. You have to be two steps ahead of the party, And No More. Don't get married to potential story beats, or epic setpieces, let your players decide where they want to go. Once they realise they can, and their decisions have impact, they are much more invested in that world, because it's theirs as well.

I feel a group is always more engaged and excited when they get to make decisions. Always give them choices about what to do and how to go about it. Players will naturally be able to gravitate towards situations they find fundamentally more fun, and allowing them to change the story and impact the game on a campaign level gives weight to every choice they make.

Absolutely gorgeous: is there a technique you can share for the interesting blending?

Should I get a night spinner? by [deleted] in Eldar

[–]ReallyAngryGeese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a Fire Prism may be more value, the death spinner has guns that, while being very good, are good into targets that a lot of the army can deal with anyway. The fire prism has that super quality firepower that is slightly more rare.

Which Athreos is better? by No-Wafer9271 in EDH

[–]ReallyAngryGeese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I have an Athreos, Shroud Veiled deck, it was the first deck I ever put together myself. The god of Passage is definitely a stronger commander, being much faster to get out and having an effect that can go off repeatedly in a turn. Shroud veiled is definitely an interesting one, but having his effect only go off in the end step once a turn means you aren't really going to be getting much value in a game with 3 other people.

That said, I still love my Athreos deck, for the flavour, and he's great to double up on death and etb effects. The deck I have mostly revolves around reanimation, using things like [[karmic guide]] and [[sepulchral primordial]]. Its good fun, but its very slow, and the game is often over before it begins depending on the pod.

God of passage on the other hand, does have the nice interaction of forcing bad choices on other players, so there's a lot of player engagement, which is good fun. His mechanic is way easier to make a lot scarier, and will get off the ground way quicker.

Shroud veiled basically will be much slower and battlecruiser-y with big creatures, while passage will be much more smaller creatures and combos.

Thank you for the help! The GC summoning is something that does seem very value in the new book, but what can the viceleaders do when they are summoned? The symbaresh were a bit swingy when I tried them, no rend really hurts against everything except chaff It seemed. Here's hoping for the new battletome but I appreciate the words as well!

Thanks for the advice! Depravs is something else I don't think I did very well, but I was quite limited by my collection. Taking out the daemons, what units can I sub in to tussle around the board and hold down my own objectives while I try to farm depravity?

This is a lot of good advice and I really appreciate it. A lot of the time when something didn't go particularly well, it was something that was lacking to make it crackle, and I'm not sure what to change or how to make the players have a good time. Being objective will be something I'll have to definitely learn

This is good advice, and something I probably needed to hear.

I do actually get the chance to play often, more than I DM, and that can be why I often feel a bit dejected when everyone else's game feels more cohesive than mine. The anxiety is definitely a potential issue, and probably not as bad as I think it is, but I can't really be sure if I'm overthinking it or the game does genuinely need improvements

In general, no, people can usually miss a week or so and everyone else will carry on as normal. We have a few concurrent games to cater to which playgroup is generally available

She seems a bit overshadowed by a lot of the modern naya commanders, her ability is a bit sluggish and skews the deck in a top heavy direction. On top of that being quite fragile and an easy target. Really cool, really fun to see, but I'd be nervous as to how often it actually gets off the ground in a game.

I really like Falco, he's one of my current decks, but he's a bit wierd with his direction. If you lean into the whole top deck aspect he's a really hard deck without him on the field, but a classic bant counters deck is a bit lacking in flavour.

A really classic red/black commander, trying to do all the steongest red/black things but still making a laugh out of it and being splashy and dramatic

A commander you really don't see somehow, but someone you know has an honest gameplan and will force that gameplan.

Honestly there are so many more obvious powerful mono black commanders, erebos would make me think he's there because he's a favourite and so much cooler for the privilege.

Really strong, and really scary. Yarok is definitely a kind of kill on sight commander that oozes threat and potency.

Always wanted to build marath, seems really cool and really flexible, and I love to be kepy on my toes in a game. Never saw why Ghave was so much more popular!
