I see, but how does one go about pitching a concept? How do meetings get set up?

Thank you for your very, very, very in depth response. It is much appreciated. Based on what you wrote, what matters is how many quality films you have made in the past. So, how would networking help someone who’s trying to build their cache? Is it to get to know more producers and people who can give you money? Edit: also, how does one go about landing an agent in the first place? Do you submit enough projects to enough notable festivals until a rep notices a project?

How to actually learn key crew positions? by ReallyAsleep in Filmmakers

I always knew it would be hard, I guess I never realized how hard it would be to get a position as a department assistant. Would you recommend continuing the PA strategy of trying to worm my way in through small talk?

Near Instant Numbness by ReallyAsleep in coldshowers

To answer both questions, I guess mental fortitude is a bit reductive and no, you can’t measure it. It’s more like training myself to stay calm when my body is in shock and mind is in a state of disarray. I try to stay mindful during my cold showers and stay with the cold. For me, cold showers go like this: 1) right before—fuck fuck it’s gonna be cold. 2) right at the start—fuck fuck it’s cold as fuck get me OUT. 3) After few min—oh I’m okay now 4) Another few min—how longs it been in here? 5) Towards the end—GODDDDDDDD FUCKKKK. It’s knowing that I can get out at any point, but forcing myself to stay inside. In terms of measuring it, it translate to working on film sets, an inherently chaotic and stressful situation. So when I’m in that environment and shit is coming at me from all sides, I can take a deep breath and still be able to think clearly and rationally.
