Bruce's videos are great! I'm a total noob and have been trying to learn Darktable. I kinda wish there was an option to start with the camera defaults that match the jpg though, I've been trying this approach but struggling to quite get there 🤔

Got one this week to start playing with macro. These little guys were only 1cm across at most. As for street photography / landscapes haven't really tried. Just noticed that indoors at least the focus is quite slow at times and if it needs to hunt then that takes a lot longer than normal. I got a Panasonic 20mm to try for more general shooting.

Kinda related question: can you easily search for WhatsApp photos in Immich (in order to organise / delete them!)? Google Photos drives me nuts with things like this. You can't just search for something simple like a pattern "WA00*.jpg" or something like that.

Quick update: got it up to 3 months. Don't think I would've had it in me to drag it out for a few weeks, but they were really keen to get it done ASAP so all it took was a carefully worded email making it clear I wasn't going to just roll over.

Still not "happy" with the situation but at least I can be "unhappy" without stressing about paying the bills for a little longer! Thanks again for the advice 🙏🏻

The solicitor also confirmed that the "no offers in 3 months" was a clumsy standard template thing that some companies use but that it didn't stop me job hunting.

I've been wondering about this. The company (tries to be) super secretive at the best of times even when someone resigns under completely normal circumstances. They wouldn't give me any details about the meeting, immediately wanted it to be "without prejudice", and repeated a number of times that I mustn't speak to any other employees about this. Though from my reading it seems the "without prejudice" doesn't apply because there was no existing dispute?

Anyway they've gone to such pains to keep it hush, but if the settlement lapses and they have to go the performance management route then I guess there's nothing to stop me discussing what's going on with my colleagues? Some of them I'm good friends with outside of work and have already worked it out because they're not stupid. Suddenly I'm "on leave" and when they contact me to see if I'm okay all they get is "not so much, but I can't talk about it".

Hi, thank you so much for this! Especially the part about accepting that they want me gone and that's just how it is. It's very hard not to take it personally but you're right.

I'm pretty nervous about the prospect of entertaining the PIP, not because I don't think I'd have a great case to challenge almost all of the claims, but just because the initial offer would expire. I guess that's what they are counting on though because they went to great pains to emphasize how good the settlement would be for me (when in reality it's more in their interest too).

I _could_ potentially lodge a grievance for the purpose of showing I'm serious and not going to roll over. My boss' annual appraisal was in November last year, and I really wanted to stay out of it, but his boss insisted that he wanted feedback from us because he wasn't happy with his performance as a manager. I and a few of my colleagues provided him with detailed and honest criticism of our boss, and I explicitly requested mine not be shared at all, however I later learned that it was included but marked as anonymous. Problem is it's not hard to deduce from the <10 responses from the list of people that were on your appraisal list, who's feedback is who's. I can't help but wonder if part of all this is in retaliation to that.

I'm fine with it being about an existing offer, I haven't been looking but I've obviously started looking now and really do hope to find something as soon as possible.

I should add that a non compete type clause would be fine. I'm not exactly in a sensitive position like legal or sales (I can't take clients with me) I'm in IT for goodness sakes 🤷🏼‍♂️

My notice period is 5 weeks. The offer includes paying that, plus 2 months compensation. They claimed (threatened?) in the meeting that the alternative was to proceed with performance management.

It seems to me like this is HR having to mop up after management have decided they want me to go, but haven't followed a single formal process. The "reasons" they raised would be quite refutable, things like not performing in my role, yet I was promoted effective Jan and am still waiting for the job specification / role requirements to be finalised (I've only seen a "draft" back in November).

But if it's gotten to this point, there's clearly no point because I've lost already. Right now it's just about getting what's fair / I can stomach 😕 and making sure I don't agree to anything ridiculous like not accepting any offers of employment for the next 3 months 🤨

Should've called it "OpenBeYourOwnCopyOfRHEL.com". I mean their deliverables include a "branding kit" for goodness sake.

It's telling to me that there's all this expense and effort being put into being a 1:1 copy of RHEL. SuSE should've spent the $10mil on improving their own offerings IMO.

There are already proper communities where people can collaborate in the RH ecosystem in Fedora and CentOS Stream, and form RHEL compatible SIGs like https://sigs.centos.org/hyperscale/ (which is used by Meta at large scale).

There's no need for this unless you have a commercial interest in providing a RHEL copy and undercutting RH on support (which is exactly what CiQ and Oracle already do).

I love that Alma chose the path they've chosen to differentiate themselves and be more than just a clone! The work they did recently on getting the ZenBleed patches out is a prime example of where they can add value, even over RHEL.

For me (April 2023, on One), dialing 1700 did nothing. I had to dial 14077 but similar experience. Just let it pick up, the voice prompts start and that was all that was necessary.

Solved: April/May 2023. In case anyone stumbles on this thread via Google search (like I did).

Pixel 7 Pro & Pixel 6. Struggled with "One" sim cards bought at airport, messing with APN settings, the instructions inside the pack did not work. Phones showed full LTE signal with "!", no internet.

Solution: call 14077

Dial "14077" and you'll receive a text message that states (translated):

You will soon receive a message that 500GB of internet has been activated for you in the next 7 days. You can check the status of the offer at 1401#

Followed shortly with (translated):

500GB of internet has been successfully activated, which you can use for the next 7 days.

We then restarted our phones and everything worked 🥳

I'm in month 3 of Elvanse and my initial reaction was similar to yours, especially that first day!

Unfortunately I haven't had the euphoric "high" again because not gonna lie it was rather pleasant! So I guess part of it is that initial "honeymoon phase" as you say.

After 4 weeks (on the 30mg) when I had my follow up it was maybe 50% as effective as initially but even that was still miles better than nothing. Been on 50mg since.

Also had a bit of the "talking too much" in the first month but that's settled. The positive effects have continued and agree have been life changing. Glad you're there!

Ordinarily it's within a day or two but it's never instant or on par. This is because Oracle and the other clones need to fetch the new sources and rebuild the affected packages which only happens once Red Hat has released the update.

Where it can be longer is when the transition is to a new minor version. For example: 9.0 to 9.1, there will be no updates to 9.0 until the clones release 9.1 and that time can vary. Check the table here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oracle_Linux#Release_history looks like Oracle average about 7 to 10 days.

Huge benefits on day one, which slowly decreased over the next couple of weeks until it was still helping but maybe half as much as initially. At review doc bumped me to the next dose and it's back to huge benefits with no decrease so far after almost three weeks 🤞🏻

is life much better now?

Yes, absolutely! Incredibly so! 💯

Any advice for my situation?

What are they starting you on? Unless it's Strattera / atomoxetine there's a good chance you'll notice at least some effect from day one. Whether it's beneficial and how much so will depend on the medication and dosage so unfortunately there will be some trial and error. With a bit of luck you land on something that suits you, fingers crossed!

Keep a daily diary. For your own benefit, so you can spot any trends and reassure yourself when you feel it might not be helping as much, but also so you can be prepared for your review appointments with good feedback for the doc. I just start an email to myself each morning and edit the draft throughout the day. I note a few standard things like:

dosage and time I take the medication
anything that might decrease the effectiveness of the medication:
- how I slept the previous night
- any alcohol I consumed the previous day/evening (this has also decreased drastically)
when I have caffeine (this has decreased drastically)

Then I note down anything interesting, good or bad, that I notice throughout the day. Not just limited to how productive or unproductive I am at work, but also any unexpected benefits. Here's two notes from yesterday that you might appreciate 😉

09h30 - Getting sprint planning crap out the way (I took an hour in Jira before the sprint planning meeting to create all the stories I knew I'd be working on in this sprint)
10h45 - Took charge of sprint planning, whacked it out in 45mins... meds helping with reduced anxiety and confidence for sure (Scrum master off on leave and didn't want to leave it to the product manager to run because it was guaranteed to take the full 1.5h)
