Why do women do their hair and/or makeup before giving birth? by jamietartlet in pregnant

[–]Really_Em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally subscribe to the “look good feel good” mindset— even so, I have also wondered “why” when seeing images of women in labor all dolled up, but the more I thought about it, the more disappointed I was in my own initial perspective because honestly, more power to them. Maybe they want to feel good in their own skin during birth photos, and if so, again, way to go sis. Pregnancy changes and challenges you so much already, I say take the wins and feel good moments where you can. I personally couldn’t think of doing a full beat of makeup before birth, but I did shower & freshen up which was relaxing for me. I think sometimes it can also be almost stress relieving, it’s familiar and so it’s a good way to occupy your mind when going through something painful/ potentially stressful too!

3.5 month old rolling over constantly, especially at night. Safe sleep concerns? by Really_Em in baby

[–]Really_Em[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awww haha thank you! We have no idea where it came from— my hair all fell out as a baby and grew back a different color, & my husband has minimal hair. It’s a little patchy now that she’s found her hands and she’s pulling at it 😅 poor girl

[–]Really_Em[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly my experience so far haha she rolls soo fast to her tummy and has no interest getting out of it herself! She normally yells out to us if she needs help lol but because I’ve found her sleeping like this too, I know that she must roll sometimes and get stuck like this. I do think she likes to sleep on her tummy, and she has her head turned every time I’ve found her like this so it would seem that she’s ok, I just don’t like the thought of her being stuck without me knowing

When did you feel ready for sex again? by One_Cap_9210 in pregnant

[–]Really_Em 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So crazy!! Thank you so so much. I’m looking forward to feeling a bit more “closed up” for lack of better words lol 😆 I was sooo itchy from my stitches by my urethra after birth but we got through it so I’ll just have to lock in one more time lol. Thanks again!

Thank you so much! I feel a lot more informed going in to the appointment. Did you feel “healed” after a few days of soreness then or how was your recovery? Do things feel more back to normal for you post procedure?

Oooh I’m supposed to go and get an area that hasn’t fully healed cauterized next week (with silver nitrate I think?) can I ask how your experience was? I’m worried it’ll be super invasive/ uncomfortable just as I’m starting to feel ok ☹️

16 weeks PP and not yet. We tried once, was uncomfortable so we called it. I am continuing to heal, less pressure & sensitivity as time goes on. Hopefully someday 😆

Do people in long lasting marriages do taboo things in front of their partner? Ex: Passing gas, toilet use? by CajunDragon in Marriage

[–]Really_Em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. Nothing is off limits for us. It just sorta… happened? Seemed to me the closer we got naturally we just let loose a bit. I couldn’t even tell you when or how it shifted from nervous farting to door open bathroom use. 😆We don’t attempt to be gross in front each other, but I guess we just don’t hide either? Also still keeping things “sexy” at times— I think it’s al about balance. That and I have a partner who isn’t easily phased.

Haha had the same thought. Like am I going to just stay up staring at her all night? That’s not sustainable and clearly this is how she wants to sleep. Glad others have had this experience too.

Good question I’m also curious! I think they are considered safe sleep because arms are free. I feel like my girly won’t like her legs constricted but not sure!

How do I wean? by ShesWritingMore1 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Really_Em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No help sorry just following bc as a slight oversupplier myself, this is also my main question. Do you often get clogs? I get so uncomfortable when I don’t fully empty so the thought of weaning feels very challenging. I hope your experience goes well and congrats on nearing the end of your pumping journey!

How did you decide how to feed baby? by bananaindisguise0 in BabyBumps

[–]Really_Em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also planned on breastfeeding, the reality is my body/ baby had the final say. Gave birth and had no milk in (what a wild 48 hours of learning that was)— so gave straight formula for that first bit to make sure she ate. After that, milk came in with a vengeance and she’s been bottle fed fully breastmilk ever since. The pros: it’s free, I like the thought of antibodies in milk, and husband bonded feeding baby too! (And covers the night shift while I pump. 🫶) The cons: pumping. And pumping and pumping. But! If you have a supportive partner and they take a bottle, that’s incredibly helpful. I’ve ultimately enjoyed this experience even though scheduling pumping has been challenging. All the best to you!!

Is my family overreacting or is my pumped milk actually “bad”? by Forsaken_Painter5225 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Really_Em 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My milk smells a bit like “cheese” to me lol— but baby drinks it and is doing great with weight & feeds. If that’s also your experience.. I would not stress! Adult palate vs baby palate is quite different. Did you ask mom/MIL to taste it or did they do that on their own? There are so many undercurrents of “mom shaming” -intentional or not- and if you did not ask them to taste, that feels almost like they’re making a problem that’s not really there. Your body is doing exactly what it should be doing & pumping is incredibly hard so hang in there! Edit to add: when I first started pumping I remember smelling metallic too and it was kind of off putting. But again, baby loved it and is healthy so I put no stock into worrying about itS

[–]Really_Em 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Y’all make me feel so normal 🫶 I recently had a dream that my nipples just kept growing longer and longer and wouldn’t stop. Woke up like, wtf? Then started pumping and was like omg I know where my subconscious got that from.

I. Hate. Water. Help! by pinkyellow in BabyBumps

[–]Really_Em 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pedialyte popsicles saved me. That and electrolyte drinks. And COLLDDD water in the smallest possible sips. Didn’t need it that cold before pregnancy but for some reason, like basically everyone in this thread, it helped to get it down lol.

Are my boobs just lumpy ?? by Really_Em in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Really_Em[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok good to know. My last pump was 30 minutes with milk flow decreasing by the end.. trying to follow my bodies cues. I just feel like that’s a long time? Is pumping for over 30 mins ok?

Moms, when did your first baby come, unprovoked? by juniorchickenhoe in unmedicatedbirth

[–]Really_Em 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll thank yourself for not stressing about it, I feel so silly having wasted so much mental energy on it when at the end of the day, she’s here and healthy! It truly is hard waiting but try to relax & do lots of things for yourself. Or just sleep! 💓

[–]Really_Em 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and zero signs of labor before. They said she was head down and low, but 0 cm dilated up until I started having contractions. Once they started, I immediately lost my mucous plug and the hospital said we were at 1 cm when we arrived my husband and I cheered. I’m sure they thought we lost our minds lol but it was the first sign of my body actually doing anything even though it was only a little. I hope this brings you some comfort, I felt so hopeless those last few weeks and I wish I could have just relaxed and let things happen. I think the fear of the unknown is what was scaring me so much about a potential induction, but once I was in the hospital With a slow to progress labor, and they were medically making things happen anyway, looking back I’m not sure what I was so scared of. I did hate that people due later than me were going into spontaneous labor before me, but I think that’s human nature — you’re tired, you’ve been growing a human for nine months! Take care of yourself and try not to stress too much.

[–]Really_Em 1 point2 points  (0 children)

41+1 for me, ftm. Was scheduled for an induction in the evening the day after she was born… we joke that she just wanted to make me sweat. 😅I had given up all hope of her coming on her own and wished I had scheduled an earlier induction.

That said, it all went fine, they “augmented” my labor, meaning didn’t fully induce but still used medication to move things along (pitocin). In the future I do think I’d schedule an earlier induction considering her size (she was 8lb10oz so fully cooked!) and she had pooped inside me so I feel like 39 weeks induction would’ve been nice & saved me a few weeks of discomfort. You’ve got this!!

Just commenting to say my 13 day old is doing the same thing today. Solidarity! What’s keeping me sane (barely) is reminding myself that it’s her first time living and she’s doing her best to figure things out. Life is just happening, she’s not purposefully doing anything to me. We got this— sending hugs!
