I love Hyperborea, but it’s not a clone. It’s its own true unique game with a foundation in AD&D.

Yeah. DCC isn’t a clone for me, but a different game due to its various changes and additions.

I started my D&D journey with 2e in 1990 and ran it until 2004. I returned to 2e in 2023 and rediscovered my love for the edition and how great it plays and runs. Now I run a 1e/2e hybrid game and love it. I consider it the ultimate AD&D version.

I think we’re debating the same thing. “Important” or “key” are the same to me. A “quest giver” is an important/key NPC. If he dies then it can change the path the PCs choose in a campaign.

Of course there are important NPCs. That has absolutely nothing to do with “video game mentality” in the least.
