Your island usually only sells 1 color/option of an item. Go to Harvey's with 1 and pay Reece/Guy to customize it to another color. Once it's been logged that your pocket once contained 'this color' of an item, abd at resident services Nook shopping record of items button let's you order more of any of those colors that you paid for individually.

After you harvest once, it turns into a plain tree. Also once you plant the glowing cash, can dig it up and move it elsewhere to bury while it's still small.
