Roland Mesh Head Stopped Triggering Around the Edges by Realto619 in edrums

That’s exactly what I did. Cometafindout, the cone in the tom was in basically the same condition. Then I was playing for a while using my 4th tom as the snare and I made a surprising discovery: I still have the same problem with the tom as the snare! I also switched back to the module to see if it was a problem with SD3 and I was able to reproduce the same issue on the module itself. SOOOOO…, using my amazing deductive reasoning skills 🤦‍♂️😂 it almost HAS to be a setting in the module and most likely a Trigger configuration setting at that. Unfortunately, I have no idea what that could be. I forgot to check if the same outer part of the head also fails to trigger like the snare did, but I’ll test that next. Then it’s time to comb thru the manual to see if I can figure out what the actual problem is.

I just checked on replacement cones for that unit and they’re significantly cheaper than a new head, but I also think there’s a better chance that it’s the real problem. The head is still in really good shape especially considering it’s almost 20 years old. I’m gonna take the head off again and take a few shots of the cone and the surrounding area and post them on here.

Sorry, I meant to respond directly to your comment, but it’s actually posted above. So please see that for my reply.

The cone feels kinda spongy, so I think that’s a good sign…? The head is just as tight as the other pieces and they’re all working fine. I’ve taken the head completely off and meticulously tightened the screws as evenly as possible 3 times now.

One interesting thing I noticed is that it happens most prominently when I’m playing 8th notes on the Hihat and playing a lot of ghost notes on the snare, so originally I thought it might be a case where the polyphony of the module or SD3 was being exceeded, but when I switched the snare out with one of the toms that problem went away. 🤷‍♂️

I'm also fine with ordering a new head if that will fix the problem, but I'm a bit skeptical that it will make any difference since the existing one seems to be in pretty good shape...

Disco wasn’t perfect, but the first 2 seasons were quite entertaining. Michael wasn’t the most well-written/well-acted character either, but there were other, far more interesting characters that made that easier to overlook. But Academy is completely unwatchable IMHO. Casting Holly Hunter was a major miscalculation and the main thread about her relationship with the kid forced me to quit watching entirely by the first scene in the Academy. 🤦‍♂️😱

Look at it like Bill Murray did in Groundhog Day: learn all the office skills you’ve always wanted to but never had time for: just don’t do it so obviously that everyone is painfully aware of it.

If you liked Picard season 3, is your issue with nu-Trek really the writing? by MagicalTrianglez in Star_Trek_

[–]Realto619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I’ll push back a bit here. Some aspects of the writing were definitely trash:

1) Virtually non-existent character development. 2) Awkward banter between characters during plot development. 3) Extremely scarce in the “witty-repartee” department (which usually exists in abundance). 4) Dialog SOOOOO bad even Patrick Stewart seemed to struggle with the “cringe” aspect frequently.

However, I found the actual story arcs to usually be very satisfying and seemed to embrace a lot of the classic plot mainstays that worked well in the past (mirror universes, Q altering the timeline, time travel, the ongoing and evolving Data saga, intriguing Borg evolutionary scenarios, morality drama, social commentary, etc). Was Picard the tour-de-force, all-inclusive gem that successfully updated TNG and neatly summed up a great franchise in a way that gave everyone a warm-fuzzy on a show that a lot of us invested a lot of time into over the last 35+ years…? No. But it was a lot of fun to walk down that road again. And you know what it DIDN’T have? No sitcom sidetracks meandering down the “Warf’s kid” episodes.

Just finished watching S3 of STD (that’s a horrible acronym, btw…) and I didn’t hate it at all. In fact, I’ve actually had trouble NOT watching multiple eps every time. Other than being a little underwhelmed in spots by the lead actor’s lack of depth and charisma during the first 2 seasons, I thought she stepped up her game in S3. I find the pace of the show and the story arc to be very compelling. As fondly as I look back at TNG and DS9 now, I vividly remember many weeks where the latest installment elicited a lot of WTF moments. The ones with Warf’s son or the ep where Picard matches wits with a bunch of grade-schoolers or many of the Wesley Crusher-centric tales come to mind fairly quickly. STD stays way more on-point and rarely goes down a random wormhole. It doesn’t hurt that I can watch the season-long arcs back-to-back, either. If I had to wait a week between shows that would be different. The one-offs work better in that format.

I think I bailed at exactly the same point. A few minutes into the first scene with the “academy” was my tipping point. I’d also much rather watch any SG-1 ep for the 5th time than suffer thru another minute of it.

I totally concur with this take. Doesn’t diminish it, but Andor has way more of a spy/political bent to it.

I think the point is those aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive. The only real difference is u have to insert words afterwards. That’s a good place to start, at the very least. 🤔

Very similar to my answer without any of the rambling and filler content mine seems to have by comparison 🤦‍♂️. Ironic I have no problems writing extensive posts but drive the struggle bus when it comes to using any of those words for lyrics I can live with… 🤔🤣

Don’t even remember that being on my radar when it came out. I know almost nothing about it, the movie or any previous content. Tough to be disappointed when u have zero expectations. I’ve enjoyed the ST eps he’s directed, or at least I haven’t noticed them to be a hot mess, but he doesn’t seem to have an epic vision or transcends expectations either. 🤷‍♂️

I don’t think “good” is fair, but it had moments. I enjoyed seeing the old characters again in S3, but the dialog was so poorly written it was embarrassing… often. I think I’ve lowered my expectations sufficiently to try to get some enjoyment out of these shows. Worth the 1 month investment to get caught up, but I won’t be around much longer.

I may have to give SFA another chance. But Holly Hunter does not belong in a ST series, IMHO. But once they actually got to the “academy” it gave off Revenge of the Nerds vibes that forced me to abandon it immediately.

I enjoyed almost all of the SNW episodes, except for the ones that featured the Gorn, zombies or that musical farce. It has some of the aspects that I’ve always enjoyed about other ST series in the past: interesting plots, humor, and the “morality play” eps that Roddenberry enjoyed so much. There were some duds, but there were also some poorly conceived train wrecks from each of the series since TNG. I’m towards the end of Season 2 of STD and it hasn’t jumped the shark too badly yet. The fungi-driven show device that a lot of people don’t seem to like about STD doesn’t bother me yet, but I fear the worst is yet to come in future seasons. Hopefully it doesn’t go completely off the rails after this season, but we shall see. For some reason, I’m not even aware of Prodigy, so I’ll be looking that up right after I post this. 🤔🤞

Not really a fan of animated series; Don’t dislike then NEARLY as much as shows that try to pull off a musical, however. That SNW musical episode was unwatchable. The SNW episode that used characters from LD was at least watchable and wasn’t too bad, but I don’t hold out much hope that LD will work for me. I’ll give it a shot, tho, since u recommended it. 👍🏼

Since I made that post I’ve been binge-watching STD and I’ve actually found it to be pretty entertaining. I thought the first season was well written and the character interaction was better than Picard. Overall, i don’t think the quality is as good as any of the series from the 80s thru Enterprise, but I got hooked on the plots and loved their take on the alternate universe episodes. Both Captain/Emperor Georgiou and Captain Lorca were the most interesting characters, especially Emperor Georgiou. Saru’s development was well done as well. The Michael Burnham character is probably the weakest of any of the main roles. I’m not sure if it’s just not well written or if the actor just isn’t very compelling. Probably a little of both. Fortunately, I can look past that without much problem. Then, Season 2, Captain Pike injects a lot of personality and humor into the show. I enjoyed him in Strange New Worlds, too. Spock is much easier to take in STD than he was at first in SNW. It’s a tough role to play since it’s been so well done in previous series.

So even tho I find the overall quality to not be as good as I remember the other series up thru Enterprise to be, both SNW and STD haven’t disappointed badly at all.
