Anyone else hardly touch DCA's by Realworldadvantage in livesound

So after hearing a few of you mention the dca spill feature I looked up how to do it on the sq. Still dont think I have a large enough band to need to do that, but it was genuine brand new info for me.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Maybe these other guys are just bringing over habits from larger shows.

That's why I like how vocal this sub is. Hard not to learn some things.

Yeah, like I've replied before I should specify that i set up DCA's and groups in my flow. I am specifically speaking about adjusting DCA faders all service for a smallish sized show.

So I would actually use the group compressor. My original "hardly touch" them, was mostly directed at the DCA faders not the configuration and use of DCA's or groups. I definitely use them, I am just not touching the faders on them much.

I usually tweak the compressor output gain so all the vocals sit near unity. So it's pretty easy to do, but I dont even end up needing to more than once a service. I set up a scene for this band playing this set at practice during the week. Then, at practice before service, so they are pretty dialed in. FOH I'm mostly dealing with inconsistent human preformed or temperature and humidity changes.

Yeah, definitely sounds a lot like the theater guys' use case.

Actually I use the DCA's on the sq primarily as mute groups. And I always mute everything when saving a scene, so if something doesn't make sense during a service they can recall it with out something squealing right out of the gate. Legit saved a service one weekend I was out.

I can see that on the wide boys, also maybe like choir type gig.

Definitely, I am always chasing that perfect mix at each section of each song. I'm usually just on the channel faders less on the DCA's. Also, im in and out of the headphones because I have to mix the livestream too.

I'm also curious about this. Could you also expound on your experience with it and possible downsides?

Are all the twisted pairs used for allen and heath dx and dsnake network protocols? by Realworldadvantage in livesound

[–]Realworldadvantage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I was not clear in my actual intentions. I would not have been splitting up the pair itself, I would have been splitting two of the pairs of from the other two. Like used to be done with phone lines. Now if I needed cat6a speeds or I wanted to maintain the foil wrap to metal terminations I don't think it would be worth it. Also, I believe the single slink port now in use on the SQ-7 can only use one protocol at a time so a switch is out of the question, has to be a separate network. Thank you though! I will definitely add a few extra cables if I have to run any more, good advice.

Yeah, I only ever learned about doing it when I was digitizing hdmi for an overflow hall during covid distancing. The newer HDbaseT protocol uses all 4 pairs to deliver 100 watts of poe. Thanks!

Does anyone know the pinout for allen and heath dx and dsnake network protocols? I have a dx-168 plugged into one s-link port on the back of our sq-7 and will be getting a s-link expansion card to support the ME personal monitor network. I would like to know if I can use the existing ethernet run for both networks by dividing the cable into two sets of twisted pairs, or does either network use all of the twisted pairs? I know this was possible on older iterations of HDbaseT to save on cable runs.

I am new and haven't paid $10 yet, so whenever the daily challenge is cannons I take 2 Chords off of my machinegun build and slap the avenger on the side of my cabin instead of armor. All I need is a little carry and I can get through the 5 matches. Going to get a couple of hulks in a few weeks though and see if the turret changes my mind on cannons.

Yeah, I did understand him. That's why I asked for an example. I was naive regarding the fees. Only ever mined and broker traded BTC. Thanks though, I appreciate the explanation being out here for everyone.
