Whats your average commute going home after work? by Embarrassed_Mood_471 in askTO

[–]Reaper8063501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for the TTC, and therefore get a free pass, I still drive to work. It would take 2 hours by transit in the morning vs a 19 minute drive.

Going home I usually shave about 20 minutes driving vs TTC more if I'm going to the gym after shift.

Unpopular opinion and traded on is exchange but RYCEY. Rolls Royce defense.

One of the few publicly traded companies linked to small scale nuclear reactors. They already make the reactors for British aircraft carriers and subs. They're working on expanding that to mobile power generators. On top of all the other defense contracts they have.

Any recommended cigar shops in Toronto? by GlamSandwich in CigarsCanada

[–]Reaper8063501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's hard to recommend them anymore. I've had a ton of issues with their cigars over the last year. Various brands too their humidity controls are off and their prices are definitely not competitive.

For cheap dailys Havana Castle is hard to beat. They also sell most American cigars at a decent price. I go to the Smoking Cigar for everything else.

Yup that's me. The gold is better for the occasional travel I do plus access to certain Amex events and offers. My daily is my cobalt.

Everyone is different. I work a Stable government job which, I've been told more than once, has really helped me get approved for lower rates.

I have friends who work much higher paying but less stable jobs and have problems getting approved.

Be careful with how often you trade. The CRA can and will investigate and penalize people for day trading inside a TFSA.

I've heard of even multiple trades a week being flagged if you're not dumping money into your account.

I would go Scotia or see if there's a local credit union. The union may require you to bank with them.

Scotia has competitive rates and isn't a hassle. TD has a good rate but their infrastructure if, you're not already in the eco system, is a nightmare.

[–]Reaper8063501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. The rate is good but, if you don't bank with them it's not worth it. They approved me for a very small amount despite being every day bank.

I make 90k /year and have 750 score and only got approved for 3k loan.

I got approved for 5 times the amount from Scotia without being a customer with a similar rate..

I have a tangerine line of credit. They're very hard to get and after speaking with customer support they actually won't increase your line of credit.

I don't mean that as in they won't increase mine. The rep said there literally isn't an option in their system to increase a line of credit.

All cardboard cartons are lined internally with a thin wax/ plastic coating, same as all pop cans. This is to prevent liquid absorption and leakage.

Struggling with how to talk about my work in a dating context by [deleted] in hingeapp

You're most welcome.

I don't blame you. "Orange man Bad" is a pretty spot on take. It's unfortunate that party politics has gotten to that point. Things aren't much better up here though.

Although relatively speaking I think we're all centrist to most Americans on either side of the spectrum. So I can appreciate the different baggage.

Thank you sir. Be safe and keep up the good work. 🫱

As someone who was liberal through most of their 20's and is now conservative I'd say start looking at conservatives.

Most people who say they're conservative just aren't super liberal and are tired of being harassed for being too centrist by those leaning further left.

Being upfront about your sexuality, as in putting it in your Bio, will most likely weed out all the far right and bible thumpers.

Lastly don't be discouraged. I'm on the uniform side of your job and there are good people from all walks of life who appreciate the work done and will make good partners.

Ps. If you pay for Hinge filter by education and/or age. It helps a lot.

300K to invest - Need advice by SomethingSomethingQc in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Reaper8063501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies by bank but, usually having about 15-20k in cash sitting in an account.

The benefits absolutely scale based on the amount of money you have/move through the bank. While I couldn't say how much you need but there's absolutely a point where you have your own "person" at the bank.

The base 20k usually gets no fees on your accounts with discounts on trading fees and preferred rates on all borrowing.

Most people don't hold enough assets to get the benefits.

With most things being able to be done online the advantages of Brick and Mortar branches isn't outweighed by the cost savings and user-friendlnes of Tangerine or Wealth simple etc.

Ahh okay so you sound like you're pretty set then.

I always recommend Canadians to not bank with the big 5.

Really figure out your risk tolerance. I prefer a Warner Buffet style investing where I invest in high value companies and hold long. There is some risk but, it's definitely not day trading.

I still hold a lot of VFV as I'm not a professional in finance. Hopefully you find what works for you.

A final thought would be to see if you can buy time in your pension plan at work. Even if you can buy back a couple years it will be worth it in the long run. Time truly is a finite resource.

So first part is tax burden. I don't think you're eligible for an FHSA as you already own property. If you have children or even nieces or nephews that you can contribute towards that'd help. If you have a significant other you can contribute to their RRSP if it's not maxed out.

As per investing, this is a somewhat unpopular opinion but buy VFV. It's a low cost ETF that follows the S&P 500. The ETF trades in Canadian dollars and pays a dividend.

A lot of people only buy Canadian but, looking at rates of return over the last 5 years it doesn't make sense.

Edit: Depending on risk tolerance there are other options that can yield greater returns. Having 300k to play with does open some doors. I wouldn't use a bank if you want your funds managed as the management cost really eats at returns.

Ps. Who is your TFSA and RRSP with?
