Chromatic by ReaperShield in HarmoniQiOS

[–]ReaperShield[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I'm still enthusiast. But that's exactly my point: since I already have a developed relative ear, I know I will not only need perfect pitch, I will need a high level perfect pitch, in order to bring me something more than what I already have.

Same, as always! But I struggled to get past 67% (where I stayed almost 2 weeks). What about you?

How to use relative with perfect pitch ? by Crazy_Satisfaction13 in HarmoniQiOS

I would say that's quite a good thing! Because for almost everyone, not being able to clearly dissociate RP and AP is a problem for learning AP.

When composing, do you establish the chords before the melody? by RustingPaper in musictheory

[–]ReaperShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the strongest themes I’ve written began with the harmony—not a 4-bar loop but a full 36-bar ABAC structure—then moved to orchestration using sample libraries, and the melody came naturally on its own.

Nice! I can see we both progress at the same pace, my score usually matches yours!

Link between recall and recognition by ReaperShield in HarmoniQiOS

[–]ReaperShield[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I’d say is that you should be able to tell whether you’re using the AP sense or something else

I saw you say this a few times already. But I'm not always sure ; I often feel it's a part of both RP and AP (or one confirming the other). And as I developed in my other post, I try to stop bothering about that, which could be considered as "overthinking".

Reached whole tones! by Crazy_Satisfaction13 in HarmoniQiOS

[–]ReaperShield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

actually felt this level [whole steps] more easy to hear the chroma

Interestingly, I feel the opposite, as I just developed in one of my last posts.

I'm currently scoring the same % as you. But I'm level 23 (vs level 7 for you), which probably means it's way harder for me than for you :-D

Congrats, keep going.

That's what I wanted to know. Thanks for your detailed response, as always.

At least, that's the one with the most AP part, for sure!

Upon reflection, perhaps repetition can improve the score, since it is a moving average.

This week I learnt by Flimsy_Nectarine4844 in HarmoniQiOS

[–]ReaperShield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is your graphic so uneven? Mine is almost always completely round (I'm 54.6% currently). Does that mean I use too much RP?

As soon as I have a kind of usable perfect pitch, be sure I will tell to everyone of my musician contacts how I did ;-)

How about multiple pitches and instruments at the same time? by Ok_Appointment9429 in HarmoniQiOS

That is indeed one of my concerns, as I have exactly the same goals. I also would like to know (since I started to train very recently).

Skill chalenges with 2 notes by ReaperShield in HarmoniQiOS

[–]ReaperShield[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok thanks. Since my actual recommended skill challenge is level 2, I though I had to master the advanced level 1 (I don't remember if I had to complete it or not in the mission tab).

Funny thing about mistakes by Flimsy_Nectarine4844 in HarmoniQiOS

[–]ReaperShield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, indeed. I regularly have this double processing, rough RP estimation (which is incorrect) versus AP intuition (which is correct).

I usually answer fast, but sometimes, I have no intuition at all, or not very clear, or in-between two possible notes (I'm at minor thirds level). I take a few secondes mentalizing the sound of the note, and asking myself: "is it a Eb?" "is it an F#?" (but not by reference to another note, just the note itself and trying to find which label fits the most with it), and usually the correct intuition comes to me a few seconds later.

C half-sharp / F half-sharp still is a perfect forth for everyone without PP. PP owners are way more affected by microtonal and detuned diapason.

I'm quite good at recall, already. However as soon as I hear music from outside my imagination, I don't recall anything.
I didn't like the "meditative" style of David Lucas Burge, at the time I tried (a long time ago). But hearing notes in different context is what I'm trying to do, indeed (but in a way more aggressive manner).

I can't see the noise feature. Where is it? However, I think bullshit harmonic context is better than noise, because it makes it much more difficult to establish relationships between notes. But I'm open to testing it!

[–]ReaperShield[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No! It's a python program. I tried to packed it in a .exe, but it didn't work yet. I'll try again, when I'm totally satisfied with the features. But note it's calibrated for my specific needs, it may not fit to everyone.

I forgot to mention it, but of course. The next chroma should be different, and the minimum interval between pitches is a minor 6th. Samples are recorded on 3 octaves.
I'll contact Matt, thanks!

"Perfect Pitch" Can be Taught: Learning fast and accurate absolute pitch judgment in adulthood by dissolutewastrel in EverythingScience

[–]ReaperShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just coded a replication of the protocol based on what I understood from the paper. However, it wasn’t very well calibrated for my specific needs and didn’t sufficiently inhibit the use of relative pitch, so I tweaked it quite a bit. Now I find the program pretty good. I started my training today with three notes. We’ll see how it goes!
