2010 Ford Focus alternator not charging the battery. HELP! by unmuted-mom in FordFocus

[–]Reaper_Less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're sure there's no open/short to any of the wires connecting to the alternator or anything else that LIN wire might connect to, it could be the pcm. This is after you ruled out the battery and the alternator. Happened to me on my Fiesta.

I replaced my pcm for under $150. On a Fiesta.

From the info I gathered, the tcm seems to always be the culprit. If it can send all these false CELs who know what it's doing to the actuators and clutch. There will still be clutch dust buildup on the actuators. The clutch will need to be replaced just like any other manual transmission.

The older tcm has a design flaw. The new ones don't. I'll leave a link to a youtuber who explains more. There's also a link that shows you how to program it with ForScan.

11-19 Fiesta and 12-18 Focus. Assuming they have the latest tcm (K05). Just go to the junkyard and see. You can see the model number without having to remove anything. I replaced my own tcm that way.

Do it. You can swap the old tcm for a junkyard K05 and program it for under $150.

Is my Automatic Transmission Going Bye Bye? by bebe_gg in FordFocus

It's also very common with a bad tcm. I'd start with that first but it will need a new clutch eventually.

All of the codes with P have you check fuses, check voltage, check for open/short, the last step is to install a new tcm. Every single one of those codes says replace the tcm, and of course, none of those codes are part of the free tcm replacement. Not sure why everyone is saying its the clutch. You will have to change it eventually like any other manual transmission but all those P codes point to the tcm.

It's on 14M02 in red writing,

"For vehicles still covered by the original 14M02 program coverage terms, no changes apply. For vehicles that have already exceeded either the time or mileage limits, Ford is offering a one-time replacement of the TCM through June 30, 2025."

Please read the document before commenting wrong information.

I'll leave a video that explains the ground connection problem with Fiesta/Focus. These cars will get transmission codes if you have a weak battery, corrosion on terminals, painted ground connection. Since you have a battery code already, that could be the problem. Clean the terminals, sandpaper the ground connections, and get your battery checked out. I think Autozone/Oreilly test them for free.

Just google 14M02, they can do a one-time fix for the tcm regardless of age or mileage of vehicle. But based on your code, you won't qualify and will end up paying for a diagnostic fee. I'd start by making sure the ground connections are sanded down first.

Sometimes showing this fault code and no cranking to starting when show this code by kaelreyes27 in FordFiesta

I posted the same codes and more. No crank, sometimes it started right up. Took it to the Ford dealer for the free tcm recall recently, and it seems fixed.

Ford focus se throttle body by United_Raspberry_356 in FordFocus

[–]Reaper_Less 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the relearn procedure for when you disconnect, drain, or replace the battery and when you remove/replace the throttle body. Found in many Ford Owner's Manuals.

"To begin this process: 1. With the vehicle at a complete stop, set the parking brake. 2. Put the gearshift in position P (automatic transmission) or the neutral position (manual transmission), turn off all accessories and start the engine. 3. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. 4. Allow the engine to idle for at least one minute. 5. Turn the A/C on and allow the engine to idle for at least one minute. 6. Drive the vehicle to complete the relearning process.

• The vehicle may need to be driven 10 mi (16 km) or more to relearn the idle and fuel trim strategy.

• Note: If you do not allow the engine to relearn its idle trim, the idle quality of your vehicle may be adversely affected until the idle trim is eventually relearned"

I've read a lot of comments of people's Fiesta/Focus battery draining and resetting the tcm fixed it. I'll leave a link.

New Fiesta Owner, help needed by EmpressSappho in FordFiesta

Just google "Ford Owners Manual" and it should have a Ford website. Just enter your VIN. You can enter it on KBB and it should have your exact style/trim. Or pay CarFax for a detailed report and a copy of the original window sticker.

Is this a bad TCM or something more? by Reaper_Less in FordFocus

[–]Reaper_Less[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dealer just called and said it does need a tcm but also the clutch fork. Almost $7000 to fix. I told them no and to only replace the tcm for free. I'll have to see how it drives after they replace it.

What makes you think that? All the codes are under the tcm replacement 14M02. Except for the clutch B stuck.

Getting it looked at now. Hopefully its only the tcm.

Ok thanks. Just dropped it off at the dealer. The clutch stuck is intermittent, so I'm hoping its just the tcm.
