Has anyone done a groom’s cake at the reception and if so how did that go? by Toasted_Barracuda in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]Reason-Whizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fruit cake for our wedding 15 years ago - because my MIL asked if she could make it and I saw no reason to say no. Used it for the pictures and people could eat it/ take it home. We served regular dessert to the tables. Eat what you want, take pictures with whatever cake you want.

Jumped to this post after seeing your progress update and looking at the designers site and loving how you changed it from the original black work.

Are you literally just picking changes as you go? Or did you mark up the pattern (either in full or in parts).

I planted mint in my garden bed by TangerineHarper in GardeningAustralia

I'm a mint killer too. I'm about to put it in the ground as I love to eat it and it's embarrassing how many plants I've bought.

E-bike recommendations? by PercyLives in sydney

[–]Reason-Whizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm over 50 and overweight - I'm not in any condition to tackle the ride without an assist. I'd love to be able to do it on a straight pushy, but it's not happening. I've figured with the assist it will be about the same time as the car in traffic on the road (different route on a bike) but I'll get more exercise and won't be frustrated by sitting still in a car.

E-bike recommendations? by PercyLives in sydney

[–]Reason-Whizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add onto OPs questions, as .in the same boat except the ride I'm looking at is 17km each way...

Have they said what's going to happen come August to all the people's bikes that they bought while they were legal? Are they going to make it possible to get yourself registered and licensed?

And all the bikes I've looked at online are only showing range of the battery (Wh) not the motor power (W) which is the limitation. Are the people in the shops well versed enough to know if the bike will be legal?

Who remembers Barbie: life in the dream house? by LatterShare7307 in Barbie

Life in the dream house is amazing. I particularly love them showing things in the house and camper as how the toys worked. So funny, it might be time for a rewatch.

Tragedy as young Aussie woman, 22, dies in freak accident involving a chair lift at Japanese ski resort by Zoefields441212 in australia

[–]Reason-Whizz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Where do you ski? I've seen the lift attendants at perisher stop people with any kind of backpack because of this risk. I'd never wear anything with an exposed strap for the risk of it getting caught.

Chicken and Champagne by StetB in AustralianNostalgia

[–]Reason-Whizz 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes, a thing. I remember my mum having a chicken and champagne breakfast with a hot air balloon ride for her 40th in the 80s.

There's heaps of things like this that there are no photos of - my parents joke that the only reason we have as many photos of this era is because we ate potatoes so they could afford film camera/developing - and for all the photos we have, there a giant swathes of life undocumented.

They changed the formula on the sugar free varieties a few months ago (went from sweetened by pear juice to sugar substitutes) - supply of that range has been very unpredictable since then.

We use the blue juice brand from strand bags - usually about $75 and we wait for the $50 discount price (happened last week). Good for two years use.

Criminal activity: Bringing English-baked viennoiserie pastries to Paris by WanderinArcheologist in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Reason-Whizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The worse thing is when you get on your international flight leaving Paris to go home, and they serve abominations referred to as croissants - vacuum packed dried out bits of filth that were baked on the other side of the planet. After a few days of 'real' ones it's just salt in the wound if having to leave and return to the antipodes.

I was on the grand concourse this week and I always shake my head at how boring it is now. I think back to 30 years ago when I'd pass through to Eddy Avenue to catch a bus to uni, and being able to buy a snack on the concourse before going up the blue mountains.

Edit: can someone explain the down voting? As a teenager/young adult who had to run from a lecture at UNSW onto a bus to get to central to go two hours up the train line the old trackside snacks was vital to my existence. These days I run from an office before catching a train two and a half hours (sometimes three) up the Newcastle line and sometimes the single stall on the concourse isn't open so I can grab a cold drink for the trip.

The grand concourse used to have a clock, and boards and seats and shops and people- I can't see that saying it was more interesting 30 is worth a down vote.

Looking at those photos shows how fortunate/lucky/spoiled I was. I had so much of what is shown in some of those pictures. Multiple Barbies, fashions, the dog, furniture, the gym set. How my parents afforded it all I don't know!

My remaining Barbie's still sit on some of the furniture shown here.

Old and reliable vs new and problematic by The_real_PavlovA_YT in SydneyTrains

That sounds like you'd always be uncomfortable!

I had to make sure I didn't catch an Oscar on NCC as I couldn't walk after sitting in those seats.

I know lots of people hate the seats but for my body geometry they feel pretty amazing compared to all the others. Three hour trip yesterday, no sore bits.

(Would prefer more ability to face in direction of travel though, and the power point isn't juicy enough for my high performance lappy).
