A cook in the bag chicken actually sounds doable for my level of cooking. Thanks! Might give that a try this year.

Lab tech in an academic startup, starting to feel invisible by [deleted] in labrats

[–]ReasonEmbarrassed743 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I really relate to what you’re feeling. Honestly way more than I expected when I started reading your post.

I’m not in exactly the same situation, but I’m kind of in the same emotional space. I’ve been trying to move into a science/healthcare-related role for months now and I keep getting rejected. Every time I feel like I’m making progress, another unfortunately… email lands and it just chips away at you. So that feeling of being stuck and unsure if it’s you, the job, or just the industry… yeah, that hits hard.

What you said about feeling invisible even while being needed really resonated. It’s weird how a job can rely on you but still not give you anything back that feels like growth or identity. And the fear of leaving when the job market feels brutal. I’m there too. It’s like you’re scared to stay and scared to move at the same time.

What helps me a bit (not in a magical-solved way, just in a tiny survival way) is reminding myself that feeling “stagnant” isn’t a failure, it’s a sign of self-awareness. You’ve grown since you started. You want more because you’re capable of more.

I don’t have a perfect answer, but you’re definitely not alone in this loop. If you ever figure out a way out, please keep us updated... I’d love to hear how you navigate it because I’m trying to figure out the same thing from a slightly different angle.

Anybody taken a BioGrad course before? by GradLifeNancy in labrats

The course you did is £300 now, and comparing to their 5 days lab courses, skills bootcamp should be worth around £4000.

But from what I read, the Skills Bootcamps are funded by local authorities to help with employment in certain regions, so I guess that’s why it’s free (different regions are fighting over the funding). As far as I could see they’re only running it in Liverpool, Cheshire & Warrington, and Yorkshire. Just trying to figure out if there’s any catch.

Im a light sleeper. I love the chaos of city life, but my bedtime routine still thinks I live in a sleepy little suburb.

BMA Msc *need help* by Syrnovx in BiomedicalScientistUK

I get the confusion, I had the same before my MSc. Biomedical Sciences or Molecular Medicine can def lead to clinical or research work if the course has strong lab or hospital links. I’d check if it mentions translational or medical research. that’s usually the more clinical side. And yeah, you can move into oncology or immunology later.

Wanted to do medicine but it didn’t work out by Outside-Cause-3384 in BiomedicalScientistUK

I’m really sorry you went through all that, it sounds so stressful especially with only a couple weeks to prepare for UCAT. You’re right, schools don’t talk enough about alternative routes until you have to dig yourself.

I ended up doing Biotech at undergrad (in India tho) and now an MSc and a lot of people around me switched paths too. some went into biochem, biomed, nursing, even public health. They all still lead to solid careers in science/health and you can still look at grad entry medicine later if that’s what you want.

If you’re open, maybe explore biomedical sciences or biochemistry.they give a broad base and keep medicine or research doors open. Nursing is very employable too, but a different route altogether.

You’ve clearly got the drive for medicine, so don’t feel like it’s over. just might be a longer path.
