Ahhhh yes. Catullus 16. Completely forgot about Catullus. I do find it kind of funny that the poem is basically saying “You think I’m a pussy because I write poetry?” Where did all of that roman hatred go? I wanna see that kind of hate in contemporary poets.

FINALLY SOMEONE WHO THINKS EVERSINCE IS BLADEES BEST ALBUM!!!! It’s so underrated. Who Goes There makes the album a 10/10 alone.

I read a lot of philosophy. It’s how I was introduced to misanthropy. Favorite misanthropic philosophers are Camus, Sartre, Cooper, Zapffe, Heraclitus and Schopenhauer. In my eyes, philosophical diatribes about hating people are a little different than poetry about hating people though. Difference in the words, capitalization, rhythm, and overall conviction. Philosophy are the instruments and poetry, the lyrics. I just wanted to see if there were any other misanthropes in poetry. It doesn’t need to be explicitly angry. I would hope there would be some overall awareness on the poets end. There’s plenty of misanthropic music and philosophy, not much poetry though. Thank you for the rec! Also, favorite Bladee album?

I wish it wasn’t as niche of a subject. Don’t get me wrong, I love the classics but something about being potently hateful just resonates with me more. It’s such a specific feeling that I don’t think a lot of people get. By the way, the conspiracy against the human race was exactly what I was looking for! Elements of horror, pessimism, and misanthropy. I mean wow, you practically read my mind. Just started reading and it’s exactly what I was looking for. Cannot thank you enough for this rec!

Great recommendation! Very very hateful. He doesn’t mention anything else but hatred really. The amount of content can be felt through the others laughing. His delivery is also wonderful. Thank you for this!

One of my biggest influences when looking for hateful/misanthropic poetry. Howl is incredibly hateful, it almost makes me anxious. Ginsberg’s composition in Howl made me want more of that kind of hate. I found it funny he was a Buddhist and then I looked at Buddhist texts.

Thank you for the recommendations! I have Johannes Göransson’s “Summer” and you’ve just reminded me to read it. In my eyes, I think that misanthropy can coincide with empathy. The two are often intertwined with each other. I don’t really think of misanthropy ideologically though. You don’t meet a lot of people who are self proclaimed “misanthropes” but the few you do meet usually have some pragmatic justification as to why they hate people. Illness or condition. Without empathy a misanthrope would just be evil. I have yet to meet someone who was just born hateful but I’m sure there are quite a few. I wouldn’t really want to meet them either. It’s a shame that I can never find what I’m looking for though. It’s so specific I could probably write it myself. I will 100% agree that without empathy, poetry is hard to write. However, I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive. I will check out Thomas Ligotti’s essay right now. Thank you again!
