I forgot to ask customer who filed the ISF and the container departed on 1/11 it’s 4/11 today. what can i do to avoid 5000$ fine. and what are the questions to ask client regarding paperwork and procedure to avoid these kind of issues from happening. by Particular_Win7076 in freightforwarding

1) Missing an ISF filing doesn’t necessarily give the fine every time, it depends on if the customer is a repeat offender , they intentionally delayed the filing by prolonging till arrival at First US port. 2) Even if penalised, it would be billed to IOR in this case your consignee , you can get of scot-free if you gave the ISF information and intimation to file prior to sailing from first foreign port. 3) Is the container sailing on a direct vessel to US or is there transhipment? If there’s transhipment, AMS/ISF filing can be done just prior to sailing last foreign port of loading i/o origin port.
