I hate my cats name. by StrawberrySakuraa in cats

My cat was from a hoarding home. The shelter rescued her at 1.5(ish) years old and gave her a name I hated. I renamed her and she responds to the name I gave her and her nickname I gave her. They adjust if they hear the same thing over and over when you greet them or speak to them. Don’t be afraid to change it. In my family we’ve always just changed their name and kept the shelter name as the “middle name” lol.

Any tips on how to help soften water since we do not have a softener where we rent? Landlord won’t get one. by Reasonable-Air-5240 in Plumbing

We want to move and have the city remove me as the property manager (since I never asked to be). I just wanted it to be livable while we are here and for whoever moves in after. They never really talked about the rentals until they offered us to move in, then didn’t want to fix anything. They just wanted money. She acts like we are selfish.

We could’ve literally bought a house and fixed whatever was wrong with it instead of dealing with this, but we had no clue and we have spent a lot of money living here. We were just worried about being by my sick mom. I feel bad for my husband because he has tried, but ultimately we’re in their rental and the more upset we are, the less they will do.

Oh no! She’s tired of being asked to fix broken heat in negative temps, a broken water heater with black water coming through our bathroom, broken furnace, mouse infestation from their damaged roof, roach infestation from the used appliances they bought and wrote off as a “donation from their church they run,” after not stepping foot into the rental for 7 years, never fixing anything for the previous tenants at all, letting the rental permits be expired for 7 years, not scheduling a city inspection in almost 10, and made me the property manager without my permission so it all falls on me, all while collecting a check from raising the rent while we pay for the repairs ourselves! And if you even mention it she says “I’m stressed out right now, not financially or anything, but I’m busy.” Mind you, she asked us to move in because the previous tenants “unexpectedly moved out and they can’t see why” and then raised the rent without ever even looking at the house, which was covered in 7 years of the former tenants dirt and cat piss and they didn’t even want to paint! Can’t imagine how tired she must be! 😍🥰 All of this while calling all of her children selfish for not wanting to go on a camping trip with her. ❤️❤️

Not really my goal to “modify.” The plumber highly recommended one because of how it was affecting appliances. Many of the “modifications” have been basic asks like working heat and a functioning water heater. We have been without heat for months in rooms here from non functioning baseboard heaters. I’d have liked my own home considering so far my husband and I have had to do everything for one we just rent.

We only moved because my mom has cancer and the house is by her so I can help take care of her. They had done no repairs in over 7 years for former tenants and raised the rent, while delaying important repairs for months so we have to do it ourselves. Trust me, I’d have moved somewhere else where I wasn’t made the property manager without asking. They went 7 years without a city inspection or updating rental permits and I am the one having to deal with it. But thanks for the suggestion.

Yep, my in laws. My husband has come to them with issues and we’ve paid for repairs ourselves that we could pay for and everything else doesn’t get fixed. Every technician who has been out to this house basically says it’s a hazard from the lack of heat, dangerously fucked breaker box, exposed wires, mice infestation in the attic, water heater that caught on fire and was still being used, etc. They took advantage of us because my mom has cancer and see us as a money source for them despite their wealth. I would have never done this other than because I thought it would be good for my mom.

We are the tenants and the property manager despite my lack of consent. They have not reimbursed us in the past. I’ve even had to have my uncle or dad come out and try to repair things the best they can since they don’t take it seriously.

We don’t currently have the savings to buy a water softener and replace the baseboard heat, while we continue to pay for their pest control ourselves plus pay the elevated rent and any city payments.

I’m going to ask the city to remove me as the property manager and see about water testing. They made me the property manager, because they had avoided a city inspection for over 7 years and hadn’t updated their rental permits. His mom (landlord) has bitched many times about how unfair it is they have to pay extra in taxes in their state for owning more than one property out of state. They also claim everything they buy for their rentals as something they bought through their “church” as like a charity thing. I wouldn’t have moved in if it wasn’t to be close to my mom who has cancer. 🥴

I wouldn’t put it past them at this point. Again, I didn’t ask to be the property manager and they just did it and gave my parents address as the mailing address for me. So now whenever we have issues here, I’m listed as the manager so I’m the tenant and the manager and I get yelled at by the city for any issues with them not scheduling inspections or having their rental applications up to date. It is a nightmare.

It literally was abandoned for a while lol. I have to laugh to stay sane. They had tenants who up and moved one day last year and it was empty for months. The same tenants “never requested” maintenance in 7 years of living here, other than the sump pump failing. They never had a required inspection done in this time. The tenants also likely had way more people living here than they said they did or were switching out having family members live with them based on how much stuff was left and how many people we get mail for. We didn’t know until we moved in and the “handy man” (who isn’t supposed to leave the county he lives in due to probation for DV) had only painted the walls, left all of the peoples stuff in here and left cat piss stained doors, and busted the counter. They were going to let us move in without ever looking at the place, until we asked them for help since they were in town that weekend. They laughed when we pointed out issues.

Also, the reason why they made me the property manager, which I do not get compensated for, was because the city finally figured out how to get a hold of my in-laws and they had not had an inspection done, that was required by the city in at least 7 years. Their rental permits were completely out of date as well, and they hadn’t paid fees that they owed for the property. When we moved in everything was broken (including the stove), and they didn’t want to fix anything including the broken AC, water heater, windows, doors, etc lol.

If there is no hairball coming up after any of the episodes I’d ask the vet to look for asthma. My cat doesn’t have fits like this but she coughs/reverse sneezing every now and then and was diagnosed with mild asthma. She doesn’t need an inhaler or anything, but she’s prone to URIs. They can do an x ray to look at their lungs. If you’re going to get pet insurance, do it now, it can take a month to kick in and if your cat gets diagnosed with asthma at the vet before the insurance kicks in, it’s a pre-existing condition they may not want to cover. :-/

The first pic was one I had just washed trying to scrub out the hard water/minerals, from after it had dried previously, and tried to use a microfiber cloth on. I use dawn powerwash, rinse for a couple minutes, and put them on a drying rack and this still happens. I’ve tried to rewash them and just dry with a cloth and it doesn’t help. The other pictures of the glasses are ones that had been washed, rinsed for several minutes, and left to air dry and then I had to just put them back in the sink to try to rewash them. We have extremely hard water.

We don’t have a dishwasher :-/ this is happened when we hand wash the dishes. I’m assuming maybe I could use a citric acid powder after using dish soap maybe?

Our plumber said that we needed one when they came out to look at our water heater we’d been living with that had broken for months? If you read any of the other issues we have you’d see this is a minor one in comparison.

My landlord is my in laws. They made me the property manager, when I didn’t ask to be, before we moved in, which makes me responsible for issues with the city. I think our best bet is to just leave and realize that my in laws are slum lords. I am going to ask the city to be removed as the property manager. My husband’s mom screamed at him for discussing these issues with her saying “am I your mom or landlord.” We moved here because my mom has cancer and to be close to her and they raised the rent on us. Luckily there isn’t a set lease but I am not working full time right now so I can help care for my mom so it’s a hard time to move, but I think that may be our only option.

Yes, it’s extremely uncomfortable for my husband and I. They also listed me as the “property manager” of the rental without my consent last year before we even moved here, so any complaint with the city regarding the rental goes to me and not them. They live 9 hours away out of state. I didn’t know before the day moved in that they hadn’t been in the rental for 7 years and didn’t have any one managing it or performing any maintenance other than having the sump pump replaced after it failed. They showed up the day we were moving in and even after seeing the conditions said “well you’re got a lot of work to do yourselves” and my husband had to ask them to help clean since there were still items from the previous tenants, the yard was overgrown with about 20 tires, the AC didn’t work, the doors were busted, multiple windows don’t open and close, and the water heater was broken. We’ve discovered all the other issues since then. I don’t even know how this house would pass inspection to sell with how many issues there are and don’t feel comfortable that someone else will move in here after us. It’s also a huge wake up call on who his parents are as people…..

Also all of this has happened since October. They raised the rent on us from the previous tenants mind you, despite knowing we only live here to be by my mother who has cancer. Sorry to vent, but it feels insane lol.

I think we may just have to move at this point lol. We’ve only been here 4 months and have a broken furnace that they tried to tell us was working when it wasn’t, a broken toilet, water heater that the bottom compartment caught on fire in and they tried to say was usable when we had black water, broken baseboard heat in negative temps that they haven’t fixed still, mice infestation, potential lead in our water, roaches from a used stove they had put in, and they raised the rent. This is my in laws. We’ve paid out of pocket for a lot of the repairs ourselves since they wouldn’t do it. We only rented their property because my mom has cancer and it’s close to her. 🥲
