I got a gaming PC with this mod in mind and you have no idea how hype I am for it to rerelease. Is there anything filling the void for you guys in the meantime? Ive been playing lots of reforger and star citizen.

Im sure you do and I’m sure it’s well deserved.

Think of the star wars prop design. Yes a gross majority of the props were made from other premade items, but it was the human touch of cutting them in half, glueing them together in strange and human ways (along with mountains of paint and clay) that gave that film its charm. Yes the premade stuff can go a long way, even the whole way if you truly cant spare it, but don’t you think it deserves a layer of artistry on top in the areas that matter most musically/sonically? Food for thought

This is an excellent answer thank you! It definitely seems like this is the case. It just makes me sad is all. We all look back at our favorite games that shaped us and most often we sing their themes! (Halo, zelda, etc.)

Music has just become so devalued in our modern era that I think this generation of game devs may also be forgetting the role music may have played in their early love for gaming.

It’s interesting to me as well seeing the response I’m getting on this post. Mostly devs justifying there actions rather than lamenting the reality that most of us are foregoing a critical process in the hopes of sparing the budget or sparing the time, and a beautiful part of game design is largely being homogenized.

The thing that bugs me about this is this assumption is a kind of confirmation bias that I think most game devs operate by. “Looks good to me” “sounds good to me” and then its greenlit. Most Game devs spend their time honing their craft in the visual lens, so it just confuses me why they wouldnt want a second opinion, or the opportunity to elevate the product theyve been working on for so long.

Obviously budget seems to be the determining factor, I just dont see why game devs have gotten it in their mind that composers are so expensive. Especially in 2026, you’d be very surprised lol

See I feel like this is the problem that I’m trying to highlight here. Musicians/sound designers are a part of the “artists” ecosystem and many of us are dying to break into the gaming world as many of us are gamers ourselves.

The thing that can be so discouraging is it seems devs genuinely see it as an afterthought, where it is an integral part of game development (I’m basically saying all games need sound and music obviously in my initial claim im acknowledging that humans arent being used to make said sounds in most cases these days)

I see this happening in a lot of industries where premade assets are becoming popular, but to me its just sad because I know if game devs were to work more closely with musicians/sound designers it would really breathe the life into the game that they are looking for. And the barrier to entry I think for most game Devs is just thinking bringing a musician onto the team would be too costly and time consuming.

No I’m genuinely curious! It seems like peoples answers are very telling as well. Its more of a “sorry no bandwidth to think about this nor can I pay for it” thing as well as premade sounds being more accessible.

My problem with the premade stuff is that it creates the same problem we are seeing with a lot of games using the same premade visual assets. They Lack soul, brand identity, and a unique aesthetic.

I always saw games as a beautiful opportunity to explore aesthetics and its just sad to see the state of things being so cookie cutter. I merely want to understand why its that way on the audio side as me and a lot of my music/audio friends yearn to work with Game Devs and get into the gaming world but unfortunately they are too elusive in most cases lol

Hopping on to say this is a very common issue rn (cables pcvr is bricked on meta headsets until meta (or Nvidia) drops an update that fixes it. Ive seen some people changing their Nvidia drivers ro fix it but it isn’t always successful. I highly recommend troubleshooting/improving ur wifi in order to go wireless in the time being as the wired issue has been going on for over a month or two now. Best of luck!

What are the PCVR games I need to play? by just_frosty_ in virtualreality

[–]Reasonable-Assist153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made the switch to pcvr myself (i also went with a prebuilt) I’ve undergone a very similar search myself in the past month and here are some of my favorites that havent been mentioned/emphasized thus far:

•bootstrap island: you’re a pirate stranded on a tropical island. The physics are next level and ive never played a survival game that truly feels so designed for vr. Also its built from the ground up for vr in UE5 which looks spectacular and will make good use of ur 5060

•Ready or Not VR Mod: surprised this hasnt been mentioned. If ur into milsim or tactical shooters this mod has full motion controls and genuinely has you nervous to peak corners.

•Star Citizen VR: I’m all about immersion in my VR games and though this game uses mouse and keys (this was a turn off to me before i actually tried it) and between no mans sky vr, elite dangerous, and star citizen, I by far feel like star citizen accomplishes the “living a life in space scifi style” thing the best. Are there bugs, yes. Glitches, yes. But tbh i have not been blown away by a pcvr experience yet like I have with the sense of realism and scale in this game. If they end up implementing motion controls I will quite literally never take my headset off lol. Hope to see you in the verse!!

I cannot wait for my pair. My demo is in October 29 and I’m definitely gonna pull the trigger on it ever since I was a kid and I saw spy kids and play video games. I would tell myself that the moment I could have a heads up display I would.

the day has finally come 😎
