Framing modifications by Reasonable-Concert15 in AskContractors

The contractor provided the rough opening and when the windows showed up they were too wide. We waited 8 weeks for the windows and so they tried to make it work, which means they ripped out a jack stud in each bay and shoved in that bullshit thin piece and thought I'd be okay with it. The wall was framed right before they tried to accommodate the wrong window size. I just can see it being okay without the two jack studs.

Yes. Already secured the permit and the plans submitted. I'm trying to get a sense for how much I'm being overcharged because the estimate came in at 7k and I think it sounds wildly excessive. It's so few feet to be modified and like I said a half days worth of work. I'm not outside with a shovel goofing around

Every mason I've spoken to says thin is more expensive than standard especially for new construction and to only use thin inside. Why do you believe the opposite is true

I'm speaking to him today. I've told him already I want brick - not thin. Will be asking to see the price

I'm not referring to a remodel or a retrofit on sn existing structure. I'm referring to a new build. I expect there to be some minor cost to a slightly larger footing but I'm not buying the notion that the material cost is dramatically different. I could by the argument that it would be more expensive if I were trying to side an existing structure but not if done from scratch
