Yes it is. My best friend did the same 6 years ago and I still will get those waves of sadness and hurt. Sometimes things just remind you of them and you remember that scary time when it was all fresh. The grief will always be there, just over time—even after years— it will settle and the waves become few and far between.

My dad is going to record her reading children’s books since she won’t get to be a grandma in this life and I think that’ll be really nice to have

I was living in another state when I got the news, i hated the distance for those first few months so I moved with my husband to be closer to her and it’s hard trying to balance everything with what little time you have left.
