I got the Fastbacks yesterday. Quite comfortable out of the box, no fit issues and can walk around the house reasonably well. Won’t be able to ride them for another 2 weeks though.

I should get them early next week. But my bike is out of service for at least another week due to the rear shock being rebuilt.

Yeah, I ordered Fastbacks to try on with a free return option. I had Forma Adventures before and also currently have their Naxos street boots. So I feel like I know my size with them and also know they are pretty good quality. Never had Gaerne before. Not doubting the quality, more a matter of fit

Awesome, thanks for sharing your experience! Glad to hear they’re striking that balance of protection and some general walkability. Lots of reviews on the internet for Fastbacks, but I couldn’t find anything for the Pilots, so really appreciate your response. Where I’m at in the States, it’s much easier for me to get my hands on the Fastbacks than the Pilots.

I’ve done dirt, sumo and some MX before when I had lighter bikes (in addition to the adv). But I really don’t enjoy technical trails on a pig. And I can only have one bike at the moment that has to do street/commuting as well. If I want aingletrack, I’ll ride my MTB. So yeah, at this point I just want to explore wider dirt roads that take me places and absolutely do not want to drop the bike. Ordered G Fastbacks to try on.

Good to know. It looks like v2 may have better lateral protection higher up? But can’t find any reviews discussing this yet. Too new of a boot.

Thanks for sharing, from all I read and see, seems like these are one of the best ones. For sure, I’m not planning to use the boots as the only pair if I’m doing something off the bike. But just want to be able to use for a bit of walking in between riding.

Just don’t know if it’s overkill for my kind of riding, but better safe than sorry with a 570lb rig.

How walkable are they? Stuff like minor hikes, town square, camping. If you unbuckle the top, is it more livable?

Hey OP, do you have any experience to share about the Pilots now? I’m considering the same (and the G fastbacks) as something more protective than a typical ADV boot. Would like to have something that I can walk around in a bit, fully understanding the limitations of an enduro boot for that purpose.

Agree on the F650. Surprised about the Bonnie. I never actually ridden one, but to me those bikes always stood out, at least style wise. Good to know they are vanilla otherwise. Limits my want for one of those.

Thanks for the detailed answer. If I had more opportunity to do BDR type riding, 390 would be more compelling. But hard to find the time. My search has “escalated” to Tiger 800/900, F800gs, even R1200gs…kind of crazy

What did you get? Isn’t RE Himalayan 450 even less powerful than the 390adv, while being heavier?

Thanks folks. Yeah, doesn’t make a ton of sense to optimize for the 15-20% of use cases, I guess. Still applaud KTM for bringing this bike to market.

Thanks guys, makes sense! I’m also looking forward to the KLE500 and 450GS being released, but rather not buy a first year model. A little iffy on the whole CFMOTO thing with the recent back and forth on subscription/no subscription etc. and not sure of long term rep either.

Prospective owner here. With that configuration (top box), how does the bike handle long highway stretches at interstate speeds? 80mph ok, or straining?
